Highlight video from a week in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming on my 1150 GS

Thought I'd share this little vid I made of some of the highlights from a trip I took a few weeks ago. Didn't get to do as much of the BDR as I'd have liked, so a lot of it was roads, but it was still some beautiful awesome riding.

It's a bit long. It vibrates bad in places. I set my video editing skill on "very mediocre" (my max level) and the music may not be for everyone, so various apologies in advance.

The other fellow in the videos is fellow ADVer ScarySharkFace, who I joined up with for part of this ride. His ride report is right here if you're interested in additional details about the ride.

Anyway, hope you enjoy. :)

Introductions...

Glad you didn't get for formally introduce yourself to that MOUNTAIN GOAT!

There was a SKATE BOARDER on the local news this week coming down LookOut Mountain, just west of Golden, CO at 40 mph and ran into a DEER!
Yikes...for the deer!

At the request of some:

Yeah, didn't expect him there...didn't seem like there was enough cliff over there to even have animals hiding. We stopped and John was like 'Tell me you got that on video.' Haha...priorities.

How did I miss this the first time.

Hope they're okay, but...wow. Just...wow. I wonder if he got it on video...that would be pretty epic.

The wide-angle lens is misleading. I doubt he was more than 10 feet in front of your bike. I couldn't believe what I was seeing!

I'm just glad the Go Pro doesn't display my heart rate.

Great riding with you John! We'll have to do it again sometime!

Nice video.

I am wondering how you folks seem to manage to get smooth video, especially on dirt. My video seems to come out very shaky.

Thanks for sharing. I even enjoyed the music.

Well, I used two cameras for this. One was a Go Pro mounted on my helmet (and on a handful of other places around the bike). On the bike mounts, you can see that the vibration of the bike comes in pretty good in the center, but the lens is just so fisheye that I think it looks more stable than it actually is. When editing, I tried to use the 'stabilization' features in Final Cut Pro, but they crop the image a lot and the overall quality seems to go down, so I didn't end up using them. The other camera I used was a little ruggedized Panasonic Lumix that I wore on like a necklace/lanyard around my neck, so I could always reach down and turn it on for a moment here or there. Both the helmet mount and just holding a camera helped a lot by using my arm/body as a sort of steadicam system...and standing on the off-road sections probably added to that.

It was actually pretty neat to see how various speeds of the boxer made the video vibrate worse/better than others. Obviously I didn't use the worst parts, but at certain rpms, the camera would just be rattling back and forth and in certain rpm transitions you would see these weird sort of phases and waves in the video. :)
