Did another dualsport run

september 30th
Mr Buzzcut and I did a ride together where we staged at china wall and rode to duncan creek and duncan peak.
It was a trail I had not been on in 30+ years.
I'd like to share my clips with all of you.

Thank the WW Ronin ride reports for making me feel like I had to get back there.

I took a ride yesterday, left Nevada City, rode up Hwy 20 into Washington, over to Malakoff, up into Allegahany and Forest City, before heading down Henness pass to Hwy 49 for the ride home. The weatherman was calling for temps near 100 degrees in the valley so it was a perfect day up on the ridges. It amazes me how prolific the "medical marijuana" has become in the foothills. Two years ago I might catch an occasional scent from time to time, now it's everywhere.

I caught a shot of these on the GoPro as I road by, these plants are as big as Christmas trees, probably 8 feet tall.

Yeah, it's gotten absurd. And harvest time is just around the corner too.

Bummer. I was hankerin' for a ride yesterday.

I love cruising around in the fall, with the fresh aromas wafting in the air.

skunk smell

Ha,
It used to make you think about it, but now it's a no brainer and it's all through the back country. Very strong!

So...bike seized up on the freeway, in thr process of a complete tear down and rebuild. Head is shot, need a new one $575 ouch! Got medic school in 3 months dont know if ill have her running by then, most likely not ad I need to save my .01. Plan is to come back bigger and stronger maybe a 440 bb w/ hotcams just bought a pumper carb a week ago. I highly recommend them, completly different bike, instant response and the stock drz will dump you on your butt in first if youre not careful with just the fcr-mx carb.

That being said if anyone has a line on a new or like new drz head let me know. You can follow my progress in the thumper threads.

Hi everyone in Sac. I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm new to the forum as I just picked-up a new 800GS last weekend. I promptly ordered some new treads so I thought I'd offer my brand new stock Pirelli Scorpion Trails to the forum giving you locals first dibs. 150/70/17 & 90/90/21. I'll likely take any reasonable offer. Hope to see some of you around the way.

Cheers,

Jim

I'm tempted, since those would fit on my KTM, but I really didn't like the stock Pirellis and don't intend to experience another set of them. I'm sure somebody will take you up on the offer.

No I lost oil, dont know how but it ran dry. No sign of burning oil and no leaks. Anyway the exhsust cam seized first and the piston seized second. Exhsust cam cheese grated the cam race.
other than that the bottom end looks and feels good. Im going to split the case tomorrow to double check everything. It will give me the chance to replace some bearings and check for wear, bike has 12500 miles. Big cost is builfing a new head, I may do BB, if I dont at minimum ill increase compression and put some e model cams in. BB is only worth about 4 hp, but it can be cheaper than oem...

Focal,

To bad it's not the XR. Parts are on hand. Anyway check with Engine Dynamics in Petaluma to see if he can save the head. 707-763-7519, Mike. Tell him I sent ya.

I appreciate it but its pretty much done...hey I think I may have thrown away that CDI, I cleaned out my tool box a week before I pmed you. But...it may be in a corner somewhere, Ill let you know if it turns up.

I dont know what it is, I seem to be the only persone who does regular maintenance and still manages to destroy the most reliable engines around.
