fuel leak?

Hi everyone.

New to the world of adventure bike ownership. Recently took the plunge and bought the sertao. Really happy with it. Had a bit of an unpleasant suprise this morning when I saw droplets of fuel on the left side of the bike. I reached under the black plastic gs tank and felt fuel underneath it. Is this normal? Does it do that because its over filled or should I immediately send it to the dealer? I heard its an old problem with Dakars, but have blnot heard of.fuel leak issues with the sertao. Thanks for the advise.

How much is it leaking? I was told to fill the tank up to the orange filler neck, Not to the top, why I don't know.
I would at the very least contact the dealer.
Best of luck

It's more like its weeping fuel. Just droplets. I filled it up until the auto stop on the nozzle kicked in. Think the fuel was up to the orange neck. Did I overfill it?

I'm probably at a similar point as you. New to the world of Adv. bikes but so far loving every minute of it. Bought a Sertao in Sept and so far have 800km on it. I will keep my eyes out for any fuel issues and will let you know if something comes up (or should I say comes out).

Good to hear you were able to get your parts off.
I had hot start issues and the dealer (after I inquired) read the bulletin and replaced the decompression lever and all is happy now.

Thumb 2012 bmw sertao oil change

oil and filter change... i guess im used to dirt bikes or something.
changing oil shouldnt require removing this much crap.. or am i wrong?

i didnt know that this was the drain plug for the oil can.... i know now; because i had to clean up an exxon valdez oil spill from my garage floor.

way too many

ive never had a bike that required me to remove suspension component in order to change the oil filter, and ive had a few bikes

this is when i realize two things:
1. the bmw dealer sold me the wrong fucking oil filter and
2. im selling this piece of shit and buying a DR650

its a nice bike but im not fond of how she is put together.

You can use a vacuum pump to suck the oil out of the reservoir tank, eliminating the need to remove the bodywork.

Eliminate the need to remove the bash plate by drilling a hole in it to access the drain bolt.

And while you're at it, replace the battery with a maintenance free one so you don't have bother pulling off bodywork to check the electrolyte levels.

Finally got around to buying some panniers, I went with the Caribou cases and some Touratech mounts on my Touratech rack, I am pleased with the outcome, However, I think I may put together some sort of plate on the inside of the case for strength.
I went to take some pic's and my camera seems to have taken a dump...
I will get some pic's up tomorrow

I am planing on getting the Caribou cases but thought they were only available for the Hepco Becker, GIVI or SW-Motech racks. How did you get them for your Touratech rack and which size case did you go for?

I bought the Touratech 18mm Pannier Mounting Kit They have other rack kits, So you will need to see what millimeter tubing was used on your specific rack, I have the Stainless Steel Zega rack on mine, when I had all the pieces together, I ratchet strapped the cases on my Sertao and moved them to where I liked the fit, Then I used a wax pencil to trace the inner rack dimensions(not as easy as it sounds) as well as where I thought the pucks would work, Drilled and put everything together.
I will get some pic's up in a few hours, I'm about to head off to work where I have another camera.
I hope that helps.
