Welded up subframe instead of bolt-on. Elegant, clean lines under the seat.
edit: but potentially weaker. Counter-levered structures need pivoting/pinned joints in most cases, rather than rigid. I remember that from some point during the two years I was an engineering major...

Any idea for a good seat of that type for a /5? There's a nice looking repro Guzzi police seat on Ebay. It's tempting...I've gotta fab up a subframe for my project anyway...

Restoration thread here:
http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=789561 I found a bad cylinder. Motor had been bored out to 1000cc, so I'm replacing the cylinders/pistons with the Siebenrock kit for the early /6 cases. It's ready to be cleaned up, powder coated and reassembled, but I'm stuck pondering whether to convert it from the dirt bike look to a scrambler look, with metal fenders, etc.

While on the topic of my bike...and here in the scrambler thread...I need opinions. This bike is built as a genuine desert-bashing airhead. Which type of riding I really don't do (if I did, I'd get a much lighter bike). But, one part of me says it deserves to be restored to what the builder intended. It's kind of a collector's item (search "Lost Boys" builds...).
But, it's a heckuva platform for a proper scrambler that is more period-correct. Shorten the forks and shocks a little, add metal fenders...this could be really slick. Opinions...?

Yes, true. But I'm not going on any proper adventures any time soon.
![]() Death Valley trips. Forest Service roads. Camping. Nothing that actually requires an actual adventure bike. More highway than offroad, frankly.

From my perspective, the history of the bike, the look, & the utility of it all says clean it up & keep it 'as is'. The scrambler look IMHO is a fad. This is unique.
Perhaps find another more stock bike to convert. But it's your bike... |

I agree. It's instantly identifiable as your bike, and oozes purpose. There are pages and pages worth of bikes in this thread which are just homogenous scrambler, but occasionally there are some real stand-outs. Yours is one of them as-is.
