KTM 690 clutch cover protection ?
After the hole I put in my 2010 690 clutch cover today, I'm looking for appropriate protection. Here's what I've found:
- KTM offers a carbon fibre "cover", but it barely covers any of the clutch cover (only the bottom). - G-IT makes what appears to be the best option: http://www.adventure-spec.com/defaul...m-690-e-r.html I've seen lots of what appear to be full coverage options for the LC8 such as CJ's excellent clutch covers (http://www.cjdesignsllc.com/products...ch-cover-base/), but cant find anything for the LC4. Would appreciate any info/insight fellow inmates can offer.... Thanks. |

German company Carbonadi makes carbon fiber covers for 690 Enduro. Their website doesn't show them but they sell them on eBay: http://www.ebay.de/itm/ws/eBayISAPI....ht_2286wt_1180

Case Protection
I use this Adventure-Spec kit:
http://www.adventure-spec.com/defaul...m-690-e-r.html Works well for me and much cheaper than the carbon covers. Cheers, Rick |

I had carbon fiber protection on my yz-250f. I dropped the bike and a rock punched a hole directly through the carbon fiber and into the water pump housing ruining a good day of riding.
Carbon Fiber is terrible in resisting punctures. That is what kevlar was made for. If the Carbon Fiber protection does not have a kevlar layer in its makeup I would not consider it for engine protection and, even then, would be a little hesitant. The Kevlar works by giving a little and not breaking. The stock engine covers don't give at all, they just break and they are directly behind the kevlar. With that said, I have the G-it engine guards. Uller screwed with this post 10-09-2012 at 04:11 PM |

Oh yeah, a pure CF cover would be pretty much useless in puncture protection
![]() Carbonadi covers are a composite laminate of 570g/mē kevlar and carbon fiber. |

Glad you enjoyed it. In all seriousness, I cut one onto half moon shapes and stuck them to the cases of my old KDX behind the shifter and brake pedal which were know to be driven through the cases upon impact. Painted silver, they didn't look too bad.

Great info, thanks all ! I'm going with the G-IT cover kit.
So, now its time to order a replacement clutch cover (part #75030001044), and KTM North America is back ordered 3 weeks ! (guess mine isnt the only one with a hole in it )Any recommendations as to where to find one ? |

Is the cover broken in a spot that the G-it gaurd will cover? If so you could always JB-weld the hole up and silicon the gaurd on and forget about it. Even if you replace the cover later, this may get you by and you can just pry off the gaurd later and silicon it to the new cover. As far as findiing a replacement cover, I'm coming up empty so far.

It sure will, as a matter of fact, they even make a putty that works just like Quiksteel http://bluemagicusa.com/index.php/bl..._blister_pack/ that sets up in 5 minutes and won't run everywhere when you apply it http://www.jbweld.com/product/j-b-steelstik/ . It has repaired more than a few broken clutch covers (XR650R magnesium cover, yz125) / engine cases (klx110, cr250, yz125) on my trail rides and never needed further attention.
