Garmin Colorado 300
So, I've come across a Garmin Colorado GPS available for purchase. What I like about it is it's waterproof. What I want to know is can it do auto routing and are there street maps that can be loaded into it? I've looked at motorcycle specific GPS units, but the prices are a bit steep.
Doing some digging I'm seeing there is the Garmin 60Csx and 62Cs. If compared to the Colorado, which would work best? I know these questions are a bit all over the place, but I just don't know and have been out of the GPS realm for a while.

With the right maps, it would do auto routing. OSM maps are auto routing so find those and load them up. They're free.

Curious, how good are these maps?

It's debatable - but they're getting better all the time as more people get involved and update the maps. Keep in mind they are a work in progress so you need to keep downloading updated versions. There won't be any of points of interest in the OSM maps, though.

Not quite certain where to start with the GPL maps. Want to put them on my Magellan Meridian that I have. I have a Garmin 78s coming to replace it, but figure it would be nice to use the GPL maps on it to test it.

Ok, so I now have the Garmin 78s and so far it looks like it will do the job. I got the City Navigator maps for route planning and turn by turn. I would like to add some TOPO maps, but the price for just a region of them is a bit steep. Wonder if those free maps that were posted earlier in this thread would be of any use?

Holy crap. What does it take to get an OSM map with topographical data. Been working at this for the past couple of hours and getting now where. Top it off with a lack of documentation and well...

Thanks for that. Downloading it right now. Hopefully it has good data. Does anyone got any recommendations for hiking maps?

Google "free GPS maps". You might be surprised what you find.

Stumbled upon GPSfilesdepot and found lot's of free topo maps for each state. Appear to be some good ones. Will give them a run and see how they work out.
