I would call his bank and speak to his loan officer about it. Then decide. Depends on the effort you want to put forth to make the sale.

A lot comes down to personal vibe too. I sold a bike to a guy in the mid west not long ago, and he was a good dude so I went out of my way to accommodate transportation, title/check exchange etc. It all depends.

I think the vin # should be enough, they can trace it to the DMV to see bike's record. Like guys are saying, call his bank.
Ive sold a bunch of bikes and havent had one go bad but it would suck to get ripped.

Try copying the title, I am presuming it's a California title. You will see that when the light of the copier hits the title the word "Void" shows prominently in numerous locations on the print out. Faxing should do the same but faxing copy of the title with "void" already all over it should ease your concerns.

I have often faxed the title on sales that are not F2F. I don't see the problem. Your SSN and DL # are not on it and you have not signed the title yet so it is not released.

Shortly afterward, I heard the voice of God. He said, and I quote, "Dumbass."

Plus 1, the bank & I would both want to see some proof of ownership.
A copy would not be negotiable.

Yes, it is simply a matter of the bank confirming that the title is in your name and you are the owner. As said faxing a black & white COPY that has not been signed over is not putting you at any risk.
