Marc Coma retires from Moroccan Rally after injuring shoulder in third stage crash - He is currently en route to hospital, where tests will determine the severity of the injury.

My first thoughts when looking at Morocco calendar were is that enough time to heal a heavy injury in time for Dakar.
It barely is for a serious (if it takes 8 minutes to help him out in race mode) shoulder injury but it will hinder physical training.

They are all pushing at warp speeds from the start. Risky business.

Wow... it was that gully he hit then?... not just a stop with mechanical. Funny how it didn't seem that long that Helder was stopped (maybe exxaggerated by the effect of the five minute intervall between the irrtracker sending its time stamp signal)... In any case Helder deservedly should be credited with the time back for stopping (as it wasn't just mechanical... as I/we first assumed).

A big "loss" day for KTM today... Marc in the infirmary and Cyril turns a 1 minute lead into an 11 minute deficit in the course of two CP's...

Speedbrain team is looking strongest (as a team) at the moment...

I think he made an application to the race direction to restart today (with a max time penalty from SS2... and a roll of toilet paper in the rally jacket back pocket? ).

Seem's they are allowing a number of riders to continue after DNF's (testing/practice for Dakar and what have you). Henk Knuiman rode the last third of yesterdays stage after (apparently) disccovering a strange noise in his engine shortly after the start at DSS... he returned to Erfoud bivouac, threw a spare motor in it, and ducked down to CP2 to get some miles in across the Erg Chebbi dunes and back up the plateau to the finish.

Not the way they (used) to do it... but good for ridrs to get milage undertheir belt, even after an unforseen mishap.

AFAIK this is one of the most dangerous stages in this rally. Let's hope Marc Coma is able to recover completely on time for the big one.

Shit..

Shoulder injuries are worse than breaking a bone. If serious they may take more than a year to heal properly if there is muscle / cartilage damage involved. Witness a certain Mr Rossi's travails a year and a half ago, I remember a fantastic article on motomatters.com

"Marc Coma has been dropped in the third stage of the Rally Morocco. It has been answered by the doctors and they have diagnosed a 1st time shoulder dislocation. But we will look at more information arriving from Morocco.
There is little for the Dakar and a fall is always a danger. We expect a quick recovery. Mood!
"Morocco Rally there always is someone who stays out of the Dakar." It is very dangerous. "I hope non-nothing about Marc", said Gerard Farrés.

If it's a dislocation then it might be a matter of 3-4 weeks, as long as there is no cartilage / muscle damage
