Here are some good new and used part sources. I'm sure there are several more out there.

Thanks man, those middle 2 I hadn't heard of.

Now I've been reading this thread and from what I can tell, the old carbs would be a lot better with a more modern choke/enrichener bodies and solid cables. I'm seeing some in the parts fiche at Max's but I'm not sure which is the upgrade. If anybody could throw a part # my way for the cables and bodies, I'd greatly appreciate it.

A local BMW mechanic came by yesterday and showed me the plug shorting method to sync them up. The left carb seemed like it was nearly closed, but it's actually running pretty great now. The guy was great and seemed like he didn't want any money for picking his brain. I gave him some cash and let him run around the block a few times though. He offered to buy it on the spot, so I suppose he misses his old one a bit. He was on a K bike, which is rare around here as well.

I'll put a video of a cold start up soon.

From what I can tell that should get me going as far as petcock rebuild and upgrading the choke. A rebuild kit for the carbs might not be a necessity just yet. Does this look right for what I'm wanting to do?

Okay, sorry for quadruple posting, but I'm undoing the barbacks and I need to know about mounting the clamps back up to normal standards.

This fiche:

shows part #2 as having a stud in it. Whoever installed the barbacks removed it and put short bolts from the underside. I could use a stud I suppose or run a bolt through from below as they did (theirs are too long and have chipped threads), where #9 and #10 are. Which would be better, and what size bolt/stud would I need?

EDIT:
Ended up being a 1.25 thread pitch, M8. I used bolts from the underside, about 40mm long. Was a pain to get in and I'll probably replace with studs to make it a little easier to line everything up.

Okay, I'm still not moving forward with much yet, haven't got the exhaust wrench or gaskets to adjust valves, etc. but...

I know I said I was going to stick with the black label Bings unless something fell into my lap. Well some VM32's are available cheap and I'm wondering what it would take to make them work. They're off a Jap bike, but I'm assuming I can get what I need from Rocky Point. What would I need to make an old set of Mikuni VM32's work, and can I get the old intake tubes to mate up? If it's cheaper to buy the jets, cables, and manifolds along with the cheap Mikunis, that's what I'm doing. Will any VM32 fit?

Don't place that order until you check out the prices for choke cables and complete carb kits from http://www.EUBMW.com

If I can make the VM32's work, it may not matter. No rush, either way. Thanks for the tip!

And as quickly as it came, I think it's going to have to go.

Money troubles, so I'm calling the mechanic that had a look at it and seeing if he's interested. He offered to buy when he first saw it, so I suppose it could sell quick and keep me off the streets.

I've decided to keep everything together. The bike is now in the Airheads FM.
