Extended swingarms

Okay, I did a little mensuration on photos of a stock 450x, last years rally bike, and the new HRC bike. I admit up front that these figures are not exact, as I was not using any specialty software and the diameter I used for a front rim was 21" (which I think is actually the inside diameter of the tire, if anyone has the correct measurement I will recalculate my findings).

In the photos below you can see the faint lines I used to take measurements from. Here are the results (measured from centerpoint of swingarm pivot to end of swingarm):
Stock - 588.8mm
Old rally bike - 612.4mm (4% longer)
HRC 450x - 641.4mm (9% longer)

From Breauxman Live: Helder looks like he's out with what Honda vaguely calls, "fuel issues."

Aluminum tanks?

Just cant ride fast anymore, my ass. I wish I could ride a quarter his speed

Well, he is in training.
From today on his fb -
Johnny Campbell Race report Day 4: Morocco Rally
65k liaison 259k special 90k liaison

"Today's stage was by far the most challenging. Big Dunes you could surf through, little soft dunes with verticle drop on back sides relentlessly went on for mile after mile. They sucked your front wheel in almost throwing you over the bars, while almost endoing off the back sides. No rhythm, and to top it off we were treated with a blinding sand storm for the last 60k. You had to pay careful attention to the road book and GPS as Bearings and waypoints were carefully negotiated. I had a lot of fun in the big dunes with my teammate Pizzolito. We entered the dunes the same time
and keyed off each other all the way thru. Myself; everyday I feel stronger, navigating skills, riding, confidence. The old body is holding up well with now over 1000 miles in this week. My bike has been rock solid. Unfortunate for my boy Helder as he had bike issues that are still under investigation. Tomorrows stage will be 245k with massive amounts of dunes and off piste(cross country). Hoping to keep the forward momentum.
Love to all."

He's an impressive guy!

Regarding Helder's issues, I think if there is one thing that Honda excels at, it is testing and refining. The stories I've heard from when Japan was involved with Baja are legendary...

I'm sure that whatever issue Helder had, will be understood and resolved. Maybe he'll have new ones in Dakar, but I bet it won't be the same one. Not that we'll ever know...

Yes, I have heard also that even if the rider knows the issues it makes no difference, the Honda techs will want to prove it before moving on!

Moving on after solving the issue of course

It looks like some fuel pump work may be the next thing up!?

Katsumi Yamasaki, TEAM HRC LPL: “We are very disappointed because Helder was doing a great job and he was opening the track with an 11- minute margin. We think that it was a fuel problem but we are checking now. Anyway this race was meant mainly as a test to make the shakedown of the machine in preparation for the Dakar, which remains our target. We are collecting data that is so important for such a young project. We will anayse all the data and continue working. It was a very promising day for Felipe, who rode with an accurate navigation and finished in the top 3. Sam struggled due to a problem with the GPS, while Johnny and Javier did a very good team work riding together for half of the stage”.

Sounds like injection system to me... anything else could have been swapped out on the trail (including a gas tank, fuel pump etc)

Hey great work

So you think the 450x rallye has a 50mm longer sawing arm ?

Is it true that the old 450x rallye used a 450r swing arm ? If so what year fits?

Using the same methods as before I came up with 610.4mm for the CRF450R (2010 model). Given a margin of error, you could infer that the Honda Europe rally bike used the 450R swingarm.

Honda Europe (Henk Helgers) lists the swing arm as an option for his kit, specially made, for 875 Euros. Doesn't simply sound like a CRF450R part.
