Anyway....
What was the deal with obtaining a fire permit? I forget.. Don't want the BLM Ranger swooping down on me in that rad Explorer with the splashy graphics. Anyone..? Just want to play it clean. Don in Nipomo |

Hi Don
I got the fire permit online from the BLM website. I'll try to find the link and post it here.

Last time the Ranger pulled into KCL and wrote one up for me.
Thought he was writing me a violation citation but nooo.... ![]() Randy, have you taken a look at the "Open Camping" areas on the map? http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/baker...arrizomap.html I'm interested in exploring the Padrone Cyn area just west of Traver Ranch. Up into the Caliente Range. Wonder if I could just pull the camper to the side of the road in a dotted area and bring a caged fire ring, which is legal with a current permit. Been across the Elkhorn with Randy last year, lots of cattle running along the road. Crossing the fault a few times was great. Padrone up to the "locked gate" and some of the other roads (cow trails) could be fun. Don in Nipomo |

Don
Why not just stage out of KCL camp? My toyhauler isn't going down any of that double track.

OK... fine, maybe next time. I like KCL and it has the only trees around anyway. Still want to explore the way up to the Caliente Ridge. Get an idea what "open camping" in the Monument could be... My camper would be a bitch to get unstuck anyway... ![]() Don in Nipomo |

Did we decide if we were going to meet some place to ride in like we did last time... or just plan to meet up at KCL.

Haul it in, carry lots of beer.
My bike does not like the freeway. It likes dirt. Freeway makes the oil black and eats the tires. So, being comfortable with my manhood, I am going to drag my toy hauler, a shit load of fire wood and at least two beers.
And unlike most of you tree hugging, bunny loving flat landers, I have been hunting Carrizo for a long time, so I got that "At one with nature" thing working. In an effort to make you all feel better, and to satisfy my natural curiosity for all things wheeled and powered, I did look for used Urals and Hacks on Craigslist, but I'm going to hold on to my cash for a top end rebuild after winter is over. I'll try to get Friday off work. We will see. Otherwise I will go to lunch Friday and forget to come back to work. LOOK OUT for cows. Seriously! Don't ask how I know.
