Tell Me About Your Alpina Tubeless Wheels

I have decided now is the time to get serious about my next purchase: a set of wheels. I can string out purchases like brake rotors, sprockets, etc. over the winter & ease the impact on the wallet.

First, I gotta buy the wheels & I've been thinking about Alpina tubeless wheels, mostly because they seem to be less expensive than other non-tubeless wheels I've looked at.

If I got a set of these, I'd use them for road/light dual sport wheels and relegate the stockers to knobby off-road duty. I kind of like the idea of tubeless tires on the road for peace-of-mind's sake.

So, how do the Alpinas ride?

Any complaints?

It sounds like there is some debate about some of the aftermarket hubs at least. Alpina is one of them. It looks like if you stay with the stock hubs and use Alpina rims you would probably avoid this.

Thanks for that.

As far as mix-&-match goes, I can't really get too excited about pursuing it because of where I live: there isn't anyone anywhere near me who can do this kind of work, and I don't have the time to attempt it myself.

That thread mentions a preference for using stock hubs-- what about Rad hubs? Do they have the same problems as the Talons or Alpinas?

Alpina use stock KTM hubs on their Adv wheels, so that's one worry over :)

I've got close to two thousand miles on mine running 50/50 mix dirt and street and not one single problem. I run them at 28 psi in the dirt and 36 on the street. They come with KTM hubs and a new spacer. Got mine from JC pac bikes. They were great to work with.

Good to hear it.

They just seem to me like a really sensible choice for the highway so I can avoid any heat-induced trouble with tubes.

Been running the Alpina's on my 990 for nearly 2 years/25,000 miles with no problems.

I use them as my 'road' wheels with the original wheels retired for 'off road' use. So cannot give any feedback or comments on ow tough the alpinas are or how they work off road.

On road I use continental trail attacks most of the time and they grip well. You really notice the weight saving by not using tubes as they definitely turn in better than the standard tubed wheels.

They have stood up well to day to day use - been cleaned every month or so and there is no corrosion on the spokes (I use the bike daily, whatever the weather in the UK!)

I am happy to recommend them

I don't intend to use the Alpinas for anything dirtier than gravel roads, so the lack of feedback on off road performance isn't a problem.

You're using the same tires I plan to use on them. I have TA's on the bike right now, and love them on the highway & in the twisty bits, so a little quicker turn-in would be more than welcome.

I have a set of their Pro Carbon Matrix 17" Supermoto wheels on my 450 Supermoto and they have proved to be very strong as well as the eye candy factor of having Carbon Fiber tubeless wheels. Different application for a different weight class of a bike but I'm very sold on the product itself. My stock wheels look like stop signs and these are as true as the day I put them on.






Something pretty nice about swapping tires only to find a 3" nail through your tire that had been there for some time and would have cost you a tire change or a race finish if you were running tubes.

A very good buddy Geoff with GP Moto in Kamloops in Canada is the Canadian distributor and I know I'm already thinking they would be a nice addition to the 990.

KTM Twins has the 18/21 set for $1850-ish.
