Oh slip clutch let her clutch out finally-------and I couldn't catch her.












This dirt road on Dunn Ridge was like a roller coaster for miles. It was up and down ---up and down.
Dr. Rock was so estatic he said he was expecting to do a loopty---loop.
Francine was on it I'm tellin' you---hard on the throttle making a huge cloud of dust.
Some of these hills I bet were a 35% grade---including this one she is climbing.

I'm not sure this isn't my favorite picture on the whole ride.





We had to stop for a break-------we just couldn't take it anymore.






While riding the road on Dunn ridge this was the view off the ridge you had.










Now here's a picture that actually shows the grade.
Francine is handling this beautifully. Me----- and I skidded down that thing with both brakes practically locked up and was gaining speed.

is this for real? Who on earth built this road, and what were they thinking? "I'm gonna just drive this grader along this tiny ridge until I can't go any further, and can't turn around, or I'll get to the other side... and then it's gonna be the most awesome dual-sport road in the world"



I was afraid, I'd wear out my gear shift lever!

This Missouri Break thing is something I'm gonna have to check out. Like you, I've never seen a ride report of this area before, and you depict it very well!

I suppose I could do a search and find another ride report of the "Breaks", but I like your's well enough. Just love your Mobius series.

Then, the road turned south, and then west again on Tincan Hill.

I turned around, and took a picture of where we were riding -- Dunn Ridge is the ridge you see at the horizon:

I missed this segment of M10. Looks like it was a lot of fun!

it was another 35 or so miles to Winnett.



Flat, smooth, and fast.



You could tell we were getting back near civilization, 'cause there were actual structures. Made of brick.



What a day!



Pulled into Winnett, bought some grub,



filled up with gas,



and Mr. Social discovered that there was free camping with the crystal meth addicts and bears in the town park. We checked out the motel in town, but we were turned away on acconna bein' dirty, stinky motorsikle riders. Or maybe they really were full, who really knows.





Instead of cooking, since there was nowhere to wash dishes, we ate dinner at the town restaurant. The swimming pool was closed, and there were no facilities, so after dinner we went next door to the town bar for our evening hot cocoa and bourbon and to brush our teeth and whatnot before heading off to bed.



I think this was one of the only days without a single closed gate re-route.

After Dunn Ridge road

We ended up camping in the town park in Winnett, Montana for free.

Just not many towns that will let you do this-----really nice folks in this town.
But------there was a problem.





The really nice thick, plush green grass was really pretty alright. Everything else was brown and burnt up. So---what was the reason for this ???
I talked to the gal next door at the swimming pool about the sprinklers and she said "Oh yeh there are sprinkler heads all over the place".
And she went on to say "they seem to come on anytime they want to---and we've had complaints".
Oh----------as I thought how uncomfortable it would be if I put my tent on top of a sprinkler head and it went off in the middle of the night.
You couldn't find the little boogers---they were hid in the thick grass.
We set up anyway and went to town for supplies---which was a short walk away--this was a very small town.










So----do we get sprinkled on in the middle of the night ?????????????

By the way, 170 miles/day was precisely our intended pace to do the whole M10 route in 2 weeks. This was about as perfect a riding day as it gets.

About roads like that is, if you ride them in the other direction, it's just as cool as the last time only with different scenery. Going to have to get a duelly and give that rout a shot.

Hmm... is that an evaporation pond at 1:28. There are some old oil fields in that area.

Indeed. Yesterday had set us up to dive right into the Missouri Breaks area. Didn't really know what to expect. From GoogleEarth it looked like a huge expanse of watershed, eroded fern-like gullies, but minimal vegetation. Dry, like badlands. Roads were either dirt, or labeled 4-WD. Nothing paved, no towns, fuel or structures for miles. I was intrigued. I'd never read about it in any ride report. It could be awesome, or it could totally suck.

To be fair, I haven't actually been on the roads you were on. Now I'm going to have to spend sometime working on connector routes. Its cool that this area will get some exposure here in this thread.

Oh and just to be sure everyone knows:

1. When it rains you can't drive on these roads.
2. During hunting season, everybody and their dog is up looking for those "Russell Terriers". The land owners are a little cranky during that time.
