I've always wanted to get rid of the crossover but I didn't think I could still utilize all of the available fuel. Thanks for this info. And I'm also in for some disconnects when they become available.

Using a Y connector up by the carbs. Instead of the cross connection , Won't some fuel be trapped in one side when air is drawn out the other ?

You might leave a few onces behind, but not enough to offset the convenience of removing the crossover. Of course, with quick disconnects the crossover doesn't seem like such a drag anymore...
