Is there anybody who has gone from a 1.85" SE rim to a superlaced 1.85" SE or Excel rim and found a noticeable difference in how it holds up?
Obviously rim width and quality will make a huge impact on strength so I'd like to take that variable out of the equation.

Here is a good update from Pyndon and others.
I recently needed a complete new front wheel and I compared all the options and sources and when comparing apples to apples the Woody's was only slightly more $$ than other options. The wheel is X2 X2 laced if that is still an issue for some. http://advrider.com/forums/showpost....&postcount=313 http://advrider.com/forums/showpost....5&postcount=10 http://advrider.com/forums/showpost....1&postcount=12 http://advrider.com/forums/showpost....0&postcount=50 ![]()

When you give stuff away in trade for advertising, you get these sorts of glowing reports in trade. Believe what you will. I know these guys, and am aware of the back story. If an A60 trips your trigger and really believe its 7000 series aluminum is better than DID's 7000 series aluminum...and if the weird lace necessary to make it happen doesn't bother you... because its "Super", then by all means cattle up to the gate and give'em your CC number.
Cheers and good luck with that.

No, and as I said previously, believe what you will.

This assumes I care more about convincing you than I value privacy. I don't. Send your Loonies to WWW, carefactor=0 They're fine wheels, you'll certainly be happy. I posted a link for where you can get a superior, or at least as good rim for $179 + shipping, that you could do it with stock spokes, the differences in how they're laced and touched on some engineering considerations. I've done my part here, the rest is up to you. Please post back with what you decided to do, how happy you turned out with the decision, what kind of riding you subjected it to, and how much it cost. Good luck.

I was hoping for facts over opinions but that's ok.
Thanks for sharing yours. I'm pretty decided about buying an 1.6" front and 2.5 rear rims and lace them myself. I'll use the extra cash to fund suspension tuning. ![]() I hear suspension tuning alone helps the rims and so far I haven't been able to adjust it like I would have liked. |

(I used Buchanan's 1.85 sun rim) Its not the spokes, or the way they're laced that is the weak link. It's a soft rim. Replace that and your good to go for many years.

I'm wearing a Pyn T shirt and can't see any woodies advertising anywhere. Given his nature I'd say he's good to his word and call agenda on ur comments. Either pony up or stfu! I have no affiliation with woodies nor any other manufacturer but ur comments are severly slanted and smack of bias.

Tight spokes and proper suspension tuning will go a long way to protect rims, even the stock one. With that said, replacing the hoop with a stronger one, and then making it narrower than stock, will add even more to preventing dents (or worse).
And this coming from a guy that has a supersized/superlaced front hoop now.

I by no means am a expert and have only built a dozen or so wheels . I do know that the majority of Honda's wins in SCORE/ BEST IN THE DESERT were on the stock 3.2 mm spokes nothing fancy just O.E. Look at what you are fixing are the spokes broke or the wheel bent . I personally put S/S spokes & S/S nipples in all of my wheels just easier to keep up .Just remember "The load has got to go somewhere"
