Many years ago I when to visit Paul MacCready's shop but it was all "Militarize" so no way to just say hi..

Amazing. Da Vinci would be proud. I was wondering if the reason for not getting to 10 feet. Could it be ground effect. Once you get to a certain height you loose the help of the ground for the downward air movement or thrust? No engineer here but have flown rc gliders and when you get close to landing the plane it floats until the speed drops.

very very cool. And a pretty awesome display of ultralight structures. It appeared that they could benefit from some cycling theory about cadence, and gearing. I think they're soooo close. I would imagine, though every ounce is precious, and working in a directional controller that works--while you are peddling your ass off--is going to be a hell of an ambition.

IIRC Neal Saiki did this first (human powered helicopter) in 1989. Just didn't do 10ft and that amount of time.
