You abuse your bikes, your body, and I've even seen you abuse your close friends. ![]() On one aspect of your comment, however, I'm curious about that "safety" reference. I'm guessing you just meant what it can do to the individual who's using it in terms of health issues and such. I don't reckon you're anymore excited to get run over by a cager who's high than I am.

Given my personal interests in agriculture and economics, I'm saddened to note the absence of a single reference in this thread to the amendment language that addresses the cultivation of industrial hemp, a drought-resistant cash crop with no potential for "abuse" involved. Weyerhaeuser and DuPont will be quite pleased.

"Sin Taxes" are far more sinful than the products being taxed. Such revenues are inconsistent, and Uncle Sam needs a steady stream of YOUR cash to keep up appearances. Remember that we motorcyclists are in a very small minority, and special taxes on our bikes, parts, license endorsements and registration tags might seem a very good idea for the 85% of this country's population that don't ride. The "social cost" arguments are used to curb individual liberty all over the world, and you may be painting targets on all of our backs here. And if you think that professional politicians and bureaucrats will EVER eliminate a taxation scheme - for ANY reason - yer not thinking clearly. It will take a very real revolution at the ballot-box to make that happen.

It's the government endorsement of that use, via taxation and regulation, that makes my skin crawl. I see a long line of clever traps on both sides of this issue..... my gut instinct is to leave that ballot question unanswered. I'm quite honestly on the fence here, and I don't like it much. Those with well-thought-out arguments on both sides are welcome to pursuade me.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Just in time for Halloween, New York police say a drug raid in Buffalo turned up 640 marijuana lollipops that had been obtained in California where medical marijuana is legal.
The Buffalo News reports that police raided a party on Thursday attended by some University of Buffalo students and found the Jolly Lolly suckers, as well as leaf marijuana, cocaine and $13,000 in cash. At least one person was arrested on felony drug charges. He allegedly had the candies shipped across the country to Buffalo. Medical marijuana is not legal in New York. Edit: BTW I can't say I am for or against 64 yet as I have not yet read it, but I don't think mj should be taxed or illegal. We have laws on the books already for actions that you take the do in fact hurt others, IMO you can hurt or heal yourself as you (and only you) see fit. wzd1a screwed with this post 10-27-2012 at 07:05 PM |

We need to pay more in taxes. It's a reality. Option b is returning to a 1940's system. Either way, anyone getting hung up on the tax issue is really is in that as a smoke screen for something else.

If it was stature only, the legislators would have screwed with it as has been proven in other states. If the legislature could prove they wouldn't screw with the will of the people, then perhaps an amendment would not be required.

They squander it away on some of the dumbest and most wasteful, inefficient and failed programs ever and you want to send them more??? This country does not have a revenue problem, it has a spending addiction.

Thanks Nixon!
Our "War on Drugs" ............ is arguably the most wasteful, inefficient and failed public policy in the history of our country.
Why do we continues to be such Jethros? And yes, I certainly agree, we DO have a spending problem.

It was Kennedy/Johnson that declared that a war on poverty (how's that working out?) would be meaningless without a war on drugs. According to them, our inner cities were plagued with mind and motivation robbing drugs. They spent billions (of our money) to irradicate both drugs and poverty from the inner cities and build instead a "great society". Because that's what government does best! They build great societies (that end up like Greece).

![]() Prohibition hurts far more than it helps. And it's just one more thing big bro tells me I can't do. It's amazing how pot can kill absolutely nobody directly and still be so vilified considering all the other potential political targets. Legalize it!

It won't pass. And I say that as a paranoid, schizophrenic, tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists fuck-tard. Between the ease with which electronic voting machine fraud can be carried out...and the millions, nay BILLIONS of dollars that pharmaceutical companies could lose if Colorado's legalization efforts were just the beginning of a national trend (which it is) and that trend eventually gained momentum (i.e. multiple states legalize)...
I sincerely doubt that those with so much at stake would leave this election up to fair chance as decided by the people. |
