I feel your main. I have two Honda CT-90's that I have to work on every time I want to use them. Its probably because they sit most of the time. I have finally decided to sell them.

GOOD GOD MAN, haven't you ever heard of editing? What would happen if someone did this:

And then she came on here and READ it? You'd be finished!

what new vehicle do you have in mind

and is it possible to retain the beemer as a back-up, so you're not dependent on one moto?

I'm going to look at the triumph bonneville, and moto guzzi v7 classic.

Id love to get a new bmw, but they don't offer anything "classic" everything looks like a space ship.

As for keeping the r80, no, it will have to go. We've been saving for a europe trip, and che said to take the savings and put it down on a new ride (did I mention that I have the best wife) I also said, maybe I should just get a car, but she said no. You hate cars, you need to ride.

At any rate, I'll have to sell the r80 to replenish what I can of the euro trip fund.

So are either of those going to be more reliable or cost less than the R80?

New Bonnies have been extremely reliable so far, IMO.

If it's got tits or wheels you'll have problems with it.

bought a new bonneville.

picking it up tomorrow, they had to "assemble it" from the crate.

it was definitely more money than refurbishing the r80 to the fullest of extents, but its got a 2 yr unlimited mileage warranty, and i ride about 1000 miles or so a week.

the v7 was beautiful, but small, and unavailable for a few weeks.

will report back with how it is. \

now i gotta sell the airhead. i'm sad i cant have both, but when the situation changes and there is more $ going around, i will try my luck with them

One R80 I owned had ignition cutout cut out as you described.
I separated the heat sink from the computer, cleaned off the dried up heat transfer compound, applied new (R-Shack, computer store) and the problem was history. In the off chance that doesn't work replace the ignition switch. edit: I see that you've done the heat sink. so try the switch. You can heat the coils with a heat gun and check the resistance. Does this have the bean can?
