After Ray bailed due to tire issues, Tyler and myself finished 5MOH is less than record time. After dumping in some stashed gas, we continued on thru Red and Orange trails. We did an out and back on VJ's trail. Since we were running out of daylight, we had to cancel the plan to ride the Waterfall trail.
Great day of Rocktober fun. I wrapped the crap out of my injured leg and it held up OK. I was glad I had put extra padding in place, as it was bumped a few times in 5MOH. We went back to Ray's for some B&B (beers and burgers) before tackling Devils Racetrack on Saturday.

I know the exact spot; we gave it a nickname and named a ride report after it a few years ago.

Saturday's ride involved rock naps.
While waiting at the trail head for Secret Mesa, we came to realize that NM must be on a different time zone. ![]() Just as well. It gave Crash some time to sort out his fork seals. After getting a late start, the first stop on the agenda was the Coal Wash overlook. Here we learned that someone had a flat in the first 1/2 mile and had returned to the truck to effect repairs. We did the only sensible thing with an hour on our hands. We napped. ![]() After napping, we bored ourselves by tossing rocks over the edge and timing them to the bottom. Using freshman physics, I determined it was 256 feet to the first ledge.

I'm blaming the Texans. ![]() Thursdays warm up at Slickrock and Fins n Things: ![]() Friday at 5MOH: ![]() ![]() There was lots of this going on! ![]() ![]() ![]() Plenty of drama at The Crux! ![]() It was dry, and slick. The sandstone had a nice layer of silt on it just about everywhere and traction was hard to come by. ![]() ![]() We got through there, but unfortunately, the carnage continued. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here are a couple of different nifty lines down this mess. ![]() RideFreak ![]() TexasBrian This is Steve and he just had his 62nd BD. Bucket list ride done! ![]() I do know that 5MOH is no place to see the sun go down. ![]() After we almost had the group out of the rocks, I realized that I had left my camera about a mile in and had to double back and get it while the sun was fading fast. ![]() RideFreak got the guys out safely to the trail and waited for me. Thanks RF! .....two more days, but not many more pics. I'll get them up later. |

C'mon, fess up. Show the video of Gordy cleaning the steps. I'm told that it is a thing of grace and beauty that will eclipse his shame on Devils Racetrack and earn him a podium finish in the 5MOH Hall of Fame.
