I've removed and replaced that magnetic gate once and in that vast body of experience determined that it was easy to screw up, possibly with HES damage if replaced incorrectly. Not idiot proof for sure but not rocket surgery either.

Ignition timing is bikefix.101.

The shop in NB owes you your money back.
Not fixing that bike was incompetent and forgivable.
Charging you for it was fraudulent and unacceptable.

With apologies to the OP, this thread is like watching a car hit a dog. You know it is a bad thing and you don't want to look, but you can't help it.

OP, I hope you find an alternate way of dealing with that tab.

I would want a full list of all parts/labor explaining how this is a $5k repair before I approved anything. On the surface it sure seems you are out of the frying pan into the fire - unless you had pistons slamming valves and/or complete engine disassembly how is it so much?
I think it's going to be very hard to prove your bike didn't have this broken tab when it was towed into the first dealer. I am sorry for this experience, I can only imagine the frustration you've been through.

If the second dealer can somehow prove the first dealer caused the damage the first dealer obviously should pay for this repair. That's a big if.

That's why they're called "Stealerships". Plus, these have GOT to be the most finicky and delicate "unstoppable" bikes on the planet - bar none!

Nah, get the problems sorted and know how to fix 'em, they'll run and run and run.

My 1150 has over 100,000 miles on the clock. Her cosmetics are a bloody mess, but she runs like a top. Got to resolve a handful of leaks (did I mention the mileage?) and do some preventative maint. this winter, but I expect to see 250k miles barring any fatal traffic collisions.

Yep - only $5000 for a tab broken by a dealer "tech". What a deal!

Speaks a lot to the value of learning to do your own work, in my opinion. At the very least, know how to do basic troubleshooting and diagnostics if you're going to head out beyond your known good mechanic.

$2000 + $5000= $7000 or $2000 + $3000 = $5000

It probably should have been $300 and back on the road.

I would notify BMW North America of your experience and send them copies of all your receipts - everything.

It's situations like this that will define the difference between makers and their commitment to 'excellence'.

Good luck with the a holes at BMW/Husky, they did everything possible to weasel out of warranty.
TE630 engine came apart with less than 400 miles, but its not a defect.
Think twice about a new BMW/Husky, maybe you that gets screwed next.
If I can discourage a few buyers maybe their wallet will hurt a little and force them to rethink their customer service.
