I understand he passed away a year ago or so, but even before then was hard to get ahold of for the final few years.
Lowell is still alive and slowly building sidecars. I just spoke to a mutual friend of ours on the phone today that is going to go out to the desert and visit him this weekend. Lowell has always built the nicest and strongest sidecar components in the US. Finding a used Lowell Neff subframe was a huge score.
I just did a frame repair on a BMW that had 100k miles on it that had a Neff leading link and subframe. That in itself is a good testament to the build quality.

Today I also received my Neff Subframe All I need is to get a forward upper mount.

So once I have fully completed the restore to my R65 or at least get it running to where it's rideable I'll be able to tackle this project. My goal is to at least get the bike running well and mounted before the Long Beach Motorcycle Show.
Lowell normally provided a lug that you would weld to the frame for the upper mount which we recently learned was good for 100k miles. When using his subframe I have always drilled a hole in the frame in welded a round lug in for the upper mount.

Here is a picture of the lug.

here are some interesting pictures that should not be a concern for your subframe.

That's good to hear!
He still has a website up, but he never responded to any inquiries I made about subframes and LLs awhile ago.
Our friend Tom told me he had passed. Tom owns a Neff /5 rig that has over 100K miles on it, I'm sure.
