RV/Campground advice

I'm currently in Bakersfield, and while I like the weather, I hate the smog/fog/haze. I like looking 50 miles in each direction and seeing "stuff".

My question is this: Is there a nice campground/RV park that you would recommend anywhere between Redding and Bakersfield, along the CA99 corridor, that has clear, clean skies, and would make a nice winter hangout? I'd like to stay above freezing, but I can tolerated some mildly cool temps. I'll most likely stay from Dec. 1 til March 1.

If you’re staying on the western side of the Sierra’s check out Millerton Lake SCG http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=587 outside of Friant (just northeast of Fresno). I’ve stopped and camped here many times and it’s one of my favorites. A little pricy…(thanks allot CA) but really worth it. Campsites are right on the lake with big boulders to sit on and this time of year would be much less crowded.

for cleaner air and not freezzingg temps the low desert or the coast are the best in the winter

you could rv at a few nice coastal spots more rain but warm or go low desert like death valley and have little to no
rain and warmer days
i'd do both if i had a month to hang out

The largest swap meet in the US is starting up soon in Quartzsite, AZ. A "bit" out of your range, but lots of people camp there for the winter months. Tons of off-road riding too.

There are a few KOA's that you might want to investigate. West Sacramento, Shingle Springs, Cloverdale (off 101 north of Santa Rosa). There probably are others so try the KOA web site.

There's a new RV park in Red Bluff near I-5 & Sacramento River don't know anything bout it. There's another in Redding on the Sac river also, it's on Park Marina drive. Doesn't seem to get foggy that far north.

What kinda facilities you need?

I live in Modesto.Most of the area along hwy99 gets fogged in all winter .Its like living in a damp refrigerator.I woud be thinking of the cental coast area( San Luis Obispo) or the desert-like Pahrump Nevada

Do you need to stay in that corridor? The reason I ask is there are many nice areas to the south and east of you that would have a lot better weather.

Anything along the 99 corridor is in the Valley. Depending on the wind and rain you will be in the smog/fog all year round.

There are a FEW days in the valley when the north wind blows that anywhere is the valley is BEAUTIFUL, even Bakersfield. But it's only a few days and hard to predict

With that, the northern part of 99 usually has better air however it is colder in the winter.

For clean air you need to be on the eastern slope (hwy 395) or the coast.
