I carry two point and shoots. A Canon SD1200 which goes on a lanyard around my neck with the camera hanging just inside my jacket for quick and easy access. I bought it on clearance for <$100 and don't expect it to last too long.
I have a larger Sony DSC H-9 point and shoot with a super zoom that I carry in my knapsack. In side by side tests I can't really tell the difference between the Canon and the Sony. I want to get a DSLR, but am worried about trashing an expensive item! I assume I would have to carry it in a knapsack with a protective case. Mike
