They look about the same size - do you mean taller one? I'm assuming water is from the fuel cap socket surround, gas from the overflow within the filler?

Sounds like another thing I don't need on a /6.

I don't think the exhaust pipes on our machine are normally hot enough to ignite gasoline. But they can be if the bike has idled too much or it's a very hot day or the engine is in a poor state of tune. It's not something I worry about but then I also have newer fuel hose and I keep the petcocks in order too.

First day I picked up my airhead: Stopped at a gas fill up 3/4 way home from Northern Mass to NYC - One of those pumps that gets stuck/had no auto shut off literally pouring squirting and over flowing....

Gas pouring all over a 100 degree summer day airhead that's been running for 4 hours in I95 traffic. The engine was sizzling the gas, like steam. Seemed to spill everywhere, especially the red hot collector box on the exhaust.

Had the same thing happen to my 1200 GS on a cross country ride in western PA. Gas erupted from the tank.

No fires.

I'll be putting a hose on my scupper drain spigot.

My 82 R100S has one spigot that comes from under the gas cap to the underside of the fuel tank. There is also a hose attached to it that runs to the rear of the bike near the brake pedal. That's the way they came when new.
Looks like a lot of 30 year old bikes don't have the hoses any more...........not a very smart thing to do!!
Any excess or fuel that I spill when filling goes to the ground!

A buddy of mine bought a brand new R1100RS........left it running for 10 minutes in his garage while he took a phone call...........when he returned is was just starting to burn the fairing around the heads/exhaust area............I think he was lucky he did not burn his house down!!

The larger of the two is the water drain for the recess around the outside of the fuel filler cap. The smaller one is the outlet for the internal fuel tank vent. That makes this a tank for a non vented cap.
My tank only has one outlet, the water drain. My cap has to be vented, which it wasn't until I drilled it. Mind you, the original cap came to me in several pieces and the replacement was not vented.

And the bar that connects the FD with the frame ... The airbox looks melted ... the subfame looks tweeked as well ..

That bike is totaled. The heat changes the metallugy of the parts. The steel losses it's heat treatment so does the Aluminum. Parts are warped and welded together. It is total scrap now. Wouldn't stop some dealers from trying to sell various parts tho like the front brake pieces might not look too bad. I wouldn't use them but how do you know if you bought something like those rotors on line?

the motor might be reused as long as the pistons have not melted but the rest of the bike is scrap. makes you wonder why bmw did not put clamps/clips on the fuel line on the bike. plus this is the reason i always turn off my fuel taps.
