Tire/wheel balancing in Bay Area
I'm having a new rear tire mounted and a new front tube inserted into an existing front wheel by a buddy who will be tru-ing the wheels as well.
I will need to get them balanced after the whole deal. Cycle Gear will only balance if you by their stuff ! Anybody have a solution in the Walnut Creek/East Bay Area or beyond ? Thanks...Jonathan |

Which bike, Jonathan? I never bothered or seemed to notice the need for on my XR650R.
But for a shop, only one I could suggest would be Addiction Motors in Emeryville. Sorry, nothing closer comes to mind.

Kinda depends, if yer bikes got an axel, I got a radial balancer. Pretty easy to make couple skate bearings and some metal to bolt em to. seem to work pretty good but I don't go oner the ton too often...\\
oh yeah in West Sac

It's a bit south but Road Rider in San Jose will do whatever you want for $20 per tire off the bike, and $15 if you bought their tire. |

Thanks folks ! That gives me some options...
My TE450 needs work. Rear tire is almost gone and the 'tubliss system' is a joke. Very hard to balance so I'm going back to traditional tires and tubes. Thanks.. |

if all else fails Harbor Freight sells a MC wheel balancer for $50 or so and carries wheel weights too...I'm leery of HF tools in general but this one has worked OK for me

My buddy at one point offered me his balancer. I've emailed him if he still has it and if I can get it. So it might turn out to one stop shopping.

MotoWRX in Livermore can balance the tires for you. http://motowrx.com/
Ask for Andy. He'll even probably let you stand out in the shop and talk to him while he's doing it. I know of a place in Folsom that will do just balancing as well, but that's a bit far for you.

I just bought the HF balencer on sale for 40 bones. Worked good although I did have to straighten the shaft a touch. Definitely worth learning diy balancing and truing. Both are pretty asy to figure out with no instruction. Just think about it a bit.

I have a Brembo rim from a wrecked bike that I could fool around with. The bearings have a bit too much drag to work as well as I would like, but it should work well enough to get a tire balanced "in the ballpark". Since I intend to mount my next rear tire on the XR, the balancer will come in handy when I do it. Anybody near Sacramento is welcome to come use it. Just give me a little advance notice.
