Hey, I just bought a cheap Kona k2 acoustic as a traveler. Quick review - Its CHEAP. With tht said, whats a good set of strings to chuck on it??? Im pretty new to the acoustic thing.

I prefer Elixirs usually in .012 gauge.

Tinker around with 80/20 and 90/10 phosphor-bronze gererally the higher the ratio the brighter they will sound (pure steel will be intolerable) and play with gauges. All guitars (and their players) like different things with the strings. It usually takes me a few weeks of experimenting to figure what I like on each guitar, and it varies wildly between my three.

Shew. If I didn't have to buy Tires I'm about 300% sure I would have wound up with the epiphone versions of either a sg or a les paul.

My buddy had one of those G400's (I think that's what they're called) and misses it like crazy. Weighed a ton and had a trunk for a neck, but did sound good.

Yeah they've got a range of them. The g400 or the g? Or is it p100.

The G400 custom I think. 3 humbuckers, creme, gold hardware. Kinda like a full dresser.

I haven't read this entire thread, but I will. I'm 53, I've always wanted to learn to play either the guitar or

the bass. Life just seemed to go by so fast, kids, work, motorcycles, all the usual excuses. I've always loved

music and envied the guys in the band that rocked a guitar or a bass. Question, am I too old to learn to play?

Please say no. Please. Things are slowing down now, kids mostly grown and gone, so I have the time now. I

have no plans to play for anyone but me. If I can even learn to play at all.

I'd recommend guitar if you aren't interested in playing in a band (you'll get over that I'll wager) its a bit more rewarding. Way way back when I actually started on Bass, 7 foot of symphonic bass. When realized how close the instruments were related I switched to guitar.

Don't get me wrong bass is a LOT of fun to play, but three quarters of that is finding a hook between the drummer and the guitars (I really can't blindly following the rhythm guitarist, it drive me nuts).

Mechanically the bass is a bit easier, the guitar is physically easier.

Thanks for the info. I usualy run a pretty light string on my electric, so I will definetly play around with the size.

Oh god on electrics I'm a retard.

My Les Paul is fine with standard 0.10 gauges, my BC rich likes essentially a hybrid, I use the top three sting for a set of tens and a the bottom three from 9s (yeah strings everywhere) waiting on the PRS in the mail, but it supposed to be happy with 0.10s it'll also have the longest scale of all of my guitars, so we'll see.

It's funny how people's likes/dislikes on strings are. I personally HATE Elixirs. To me they sound dead out of the box. They might last a long time, but I don't want a dead sound for a long time. I'd rather pony up 8 or 10 bucks every month or six weeks to have my guitar sound good.
