If you're not hurting for money, I'd pay the extra $1000. Sometimes letting them make some money goes a long way when you require service, warranty work etc... Just make sure it's not a sell it and forget it type of dealer though and they have a good rep. Just as an example I bought my Multi from AMS Ducati in Dallas knowing I could get at least another 500-1000 off at another dealer but I didn't. They treated me like a king every time I went out there both in service department and sales.

Congrats on the new bike.
I live in Stevenson and hope to join in on one or of Applejams group rides next year.
I would have loved to make the trek to Bend this year but had a friends 50th BDay to attend.

too much

15k is to much for the bike. You can fly and ride home from Alaska with a 990r out the door for 14,500.00. Get the cheaper price and service it where you want. Tell, don't ask, your dealer that you will pay 13,500.00 because you can get it somewhere else but you want to support them. Let them send you to another dealer. That way they know that the lost sale was there choice and not yours.
Don't forget its a buyers market.

Remember you get what you pay for...

The most important thing in the equation of owning a KTM bike is good product and service support. You'll need parts very last minute. You'll want the ear of a great 9xx tech for insight on every aspect of service and maintenance. You'll enjoy the bike much more having the peace of mind knowing you have a professional support system behind you after you ride out of the showroom.

That being said, don't loose your spirit for negotiating... no matter where you buy your 9xx from.

Any dealer would be a fool to turn away a potential buyer for failing to price match. A new 9xx owner represents huge backend profits. It's the nature of that big beautiful Orange beast.

Find a price you're happy to pay and take it to your local dealer. They will find a way to make it work, even if it requires leaving your price on a card with your phone number. By the end of the month you'll get a nice phone message begging you to come in.

It worked for me many years ago and I'm still the proud owner.

Don't forget to find out if KTM USA is offering any special promotional gift with purchases. They were offering GPS one year.

And start stocking up on tires...

Thanks for all the replies and good words for the Gresham KTM dealer, I just left there after putting a down payment on a 2012 990. And yes the price was very good!

But not both

I work downtown HR so just give me a shout one of these days and we can meet up. Double Migraine is one of my favorite spots. Pizza and beer

I bought my 990 in a Portland area mega dealer along with a service contract...when the contract expired I took my bike into Gresham KTM for a servicing. They showed me all the things the big box dealer had screwed up (the worst of which leaving a busted off bolt puller in the place of the bolt they busted off.)

Bottom line they are top notch with 990s, cured the twitchy throttle and were honest enough to not do work I thought I needed after they checked the bike.

They're great people with an awesome shop and mechanic. No one else touches my bike but them now. They didn't have a 990 in stock the day I was hot to trot on buying one. But I don't feel for a minute that they treat me any differently then they would if I'd bought from them.

You will have no regrets in doing business there.

Agree, one or the other. Have you been to the new brew pub down at the beach?

Heading out of town on vacation for a week but lets try to get together for a beer later this month.

Cheers

Whoa! The big new gun!! Congrats, indeed!!
The new beast is on it's way

Mosier, eh? I'm up towards Parkdale (on the ancient mud flow of the upper HR Valley) but get done with work in downtown Hood River most weekdays
I'm not a beer fan, but I'd love to get together and ride with more locals. Our Februarys have proven to provide some sunny riding days on our way out east, if a bit cold...

Have fun on yer week vacation, Ladukebob!!

MAN!! are you guys lucky! My local dealer is a multi-brand affair and doesn't know Motorex fron his-last-EX. And every time I call just to check stock on a simple part or oil, I'm on hold for 5+ min just for a wrong answer. Naturally, they don't TOUCH any of my bikes. Could be different if the stats were other than this......
