eagkes nest and back
Hi guys
Me and a mate are planning a trip from the UK over to Hitlers Eagles Nest and back via the Black Forest. As neither of us have been in this area before, were looking for inspiration as to where to visit etc?? Any pointers would be a great help. Looking to be there around June next year. Cheers

Allow time to do the Rossfeldringstrasse, (small Toll applies) near Berchtesgaden.
The B164 just to the south is worth a run along it and The Grossglockner is not beyond your reach (large Toll applies) Werfen Castle is Schloss Adler from "Where Eagles Dare" and the nearby Ice Caves are quite spectacular. Salzburg is a lovely city and it is very pleasant around the Lakes near Sankt Wolfgang and Hallstatt (Hallstatt is so pretty the chinese have copied it brick for brick) A bit further SE is Nockalmstrasse, one not to miss in the area and my favourite. The Dachstein Glacier is also very spectacular. Oh, and I run a B&B in Ramsau Am Dachstein, not to be confused with Ramsau Bei Berchtesgaden which is about an hour away. The B500 in the Black forest is the one everyone heads for but can get very busy with bikes. A good place to stay in the southern part of The Black Forest is http://www.thegrunenberg.com/

My friend and I rode from Slovenia across Austria and southern Germany this past August, stopping to see The Eagle's nest in Berchtesgaden. Here's our route:
![]() We stayed at a hotel run by a very nice Czech fellow at the foot of the mountain; you can see The Eagle's Nest at the top: ![]() You can't drive all the way up; you drive up about halfway and take a bus to the top. ![]() ![]() On the way back we took a ferry across the Bodensee (Lake Constance) and on through Switzerland: ![]() If you want to go a little farther east, there some really nice riding though the Tyrolian Alps near Innsbruck: ![]()
