Very good guy to deal with...gave me a run-down on what he had done to it, and is giving me a BUNCH of spare parts and the chilton manual (I need to get a Clymer manual). The bike is complete as it stands, but I'll have an extra 1.5 engines (one complete, one needs some work), and several boxes of take-offs, spares, miscellaneous parts, etc.

Got it just in the nick of time too...he's heading overseas very soon. Like it wouldn't be available at the end of the week...that soon.

Once I get it home, and start playing with it, I'm sure I'll put up a thread elsewhere...maybe in Old's Cool.

And for now, I'm thinking that PIMPN number plate stays.

keep an eye on the alternator brushes.... one of them wears more quickly than the other, and when it's done it can end a nice trip

Happened to me on a road trip in '77 in northern California.
Bike started running on one cylinder unless I turned off the headlight....then all the time....would die when I hit a turn signal.

I wasn't much of a diagnostician and didn't realize the battery was no longer being charged, and the bike was running off the battery - until I got a good long way away from any town....and it died completely.

Yep, you have to jump on those good deals when you see them. I missed out of a Dnepr sidecar rig several months back. If I had called right when I saw it, I'd own it! But I waited until the next morning and they guy was helping the new owner to load it up! I think I might start looking for a project that will evolve into the bike you got!

The plate is tasteful, you can't really tell what it says until you think about it for a minute. Very cool bike, Congrats.

Thanks for the tips! Sent you a pm in response to yours. I'll probably dig into the alternator this winter as well...it's coming with a Hughs perm magnet conversion, but it's not installed...owner said the stock alternator is working fine now, but it's probably just a matter of time. It's already got a Pamco ignition (a good thing in my book), so I think as long as the rest of the electrics are working well I should be ok. It fired right up today from stone cold...a pretty good sign that the basics are ok.

Head on down to Jo Momma Mate , that's where the classy highbrow folks hangout and discuss the meaning of life along with quantum physics and the like .
