.More than one rider tends to favour a race set up strategy rather than shoot for pole.Dovi for instance tends to race better than qualify.I think thats what motu means

Rossi seems to move forward on the Duc more by attrition than by anything else. Steady as she goes. It is smart, but it is boring, even to him.

but vr is not even close. He doesn't have the luxury of concentrating on race pace.

If he's not even close, then why DOESN'T he have the luxury of a race set-up? He (and they) know that with their best possible 'Q' set-up, the Duc isn't going to be front row in the dry. So why not concentrate on race set-up and try for a season-best finish (or some other acheivable goal)?

Shooting for pole is an uttainable goal for them, sure, but 11th after a CRT bike and satellite duc - that's more like an embarrasment. They shouldn't be there even IF they focused only on race set-up.

a good race set up means he turns the same lap times all race,and as he has shown he picks off the blokes who are suffering from tyre wear(or whatever).Its why he consistently scores BETTER FINISH places than nicky etc(and bautista and Bradl) Its all they CAN do

Not aimed at you personally Cogitate but I just laugh when I see comments similar to those you use above (and they are all over the net).

I laugh because many of the same people who genuinely type and believe the above are the self same people who are critical of other riders for 'not trying' as they may perceive them because of their riding number.

Were Rossi (or any rider) not to try then he should in be given a wire brush enema treatment for his (lack of) efforts as he is not paid to bludge irrespective of his feelings regarding the product on which he rides.

If that warm-up is anything to go by, it could be interesting. Did the top three not give a shit, or were they unable to get things right?

Seems likely that conditions will be similar for the race too.

That's the way I see it, too. And I have little doubt it's the way Rossi sees it. It makes it hard to avoid the conclusion that Rossi's issues with the Duc are not just about the Duc, but are also about his (in)ability to ride in a way that makes the Duc work. And I am a Rossi fan.

Two other relevant stats were cited by commentators during the qualifying broadcast. Rossi had held the qualifying lap record here since 2006 (at 1:31.002) until Pedrosa went under it yesterday. But as I write this, the race lap record of 1:32.582 is still held Stoner - set in 2008, on the Duc.

yes he's a lightweight but there's something else going on there
