Can't Locate Tires I Want

My 2010 1200 GS needs new rubber. I got all the spoons, bead breakers, rim protecters, etc. but cannot find anyplace that has the tires I want.

Looking for Michelin Pilot Road 3 Trail Tires front and rear. Road 3 but no Road 3 Trail. Out of stock everywhere on the internet that I searched. WTF? Can anyone steer me in the right direction to an online source?? Thanks!!

Yer second link is for Pilot road 3, not road 3 trail

You can't tell if they are in stock till you enter an order. I'm trying to find someone who stocks them, but thanks for the 30 second try. I've been at this for days hence my OP.

Same here, no luck. Gotta be patient I suppose or go with some other set.

Either PR3 Trails (want to see,what all the hype is about) or trusted Conti Road Attack 2s for me.

Maybe you should change your choice.....

Tires are like oil....everybody has an opinion...I get the ones that are low cost and provide good performance. These days, that's Bridgestone BWs.

The Dunlops I had been using are no longer available (607s). The Michelin Anakees are too expensive and the front cups.

Never had Metzlers...didn't need them. Contis and others are too costly.

I found that these folks have good prices on good tires so, I got some.

why? no one is telling you to change yours.

tires help our bikes stay connected to the pavement, can't say that for oil.

why not let others get what they want? it's their money after all.

i'm going to remain patient and try out the PR3s and if i don't like them i'll go back to my time-tested Conti Road Attack 2s which i like very much.

You are correct on all counts. I was suggesting a change, not demanding one.

Tire choices are very much like engine oil...often chosen based upon a perception not necessarily on fact. Some choose tires based upon looks. Others have vast experience with various brands and sizes while others still choose based upon the comments they read herein.

I fully agree with you, tires and oil perform very different functions that are not related to one another.

And yes, we are free to choose most everything that affects our lives..........

The problem seems to be across all types of tires.

I talked to my local automotive tire guy (decades of experience), and he said it is due to low demand over the last two years. It seems people really cut back on tires (either not driving, or driving them till the threads show), leaving tire manufacturers with too much inventory rotting away on the shelves. This year, they decided to drastically cut production, and now people want tires (go figure). My car tires were backordered "indefinatley" at the local shop, and 2-weeks on Tire Rack (I guess the big guys get priority). When faced with long back orders for my dual sport, I ended up buying a mismatched set of third and fourth choice tires.

If you can wait a month or so, placing your back order with a huge retailer will likely get you the fastest results.

Have Pilot Road 3's on the RT...love 'em. Nice in WET weather, too.
When I bought them this past Spring...I had to buy each one at a different source.

This seems to happen with Michelin every year...
The last two years in a row the Anakee 2s went on backorder for at least a month and a half come fall.
I'm learning with Michelin to buy an extra set to have on hand when I ready for a new tire. Then replace the spare. But then again I rely on my bike as my primary transportation which means I go through at least 2 rear tires a year... no need to worry about them going bad in my garage.
