98mm in no big deal at all! I bore XR600s to 100mm (628cc) all the time. Some people will even go to 101-2mm but unless it's a total effort race engine 100mm is as big as I like to go (on the stock sleeve).

Stock XL600 bore is 100 mm. They have a short 75 mm stroke.

ok that makes no sense ....no way the stock bore is 100mm..everything ive found says its 97mm...or is that part of the change from 83 to 85?

You either need to put the pipe down or put some glasses on. The XL600r uses a 100mm piston. The XR600r uses a 97mm piston. The XR650l uses a 100 piston. Have you even measured the cylinder??

ok..ive verifyed it is a 99.5mm piston that was in there..or was..the bore now is a 100mm

odd my manual states it should be a 97mm bore....ahh well this makes things simple now LOL

Go with the big bore kit. I eat up XRLs all day. not sure of the size i got, the receipt the PO gave me is unclear on the size, just says "Wiseco hi-comp." All I know is it likes 91 octane and when I roll back on the throttle, it is pure exhilaration for a single lung bike.

i allready had a problem keeping the front down on the street and the rear under me off road....

anyone else find it weird that the slug i removed was 99.5mm...my brain just cant wrap around that if the stock xl bore is 100mm how did it have a 99.5 in it

How old is the picton, Miles?? Most likely the piston is a 100mm but has shrunk from wear. They do that ya know. The wear out bit.

but that doesnt explain the bore cleaned and ready to roll for the next slug comming out at 100mm

I have a mid 80's XR600 cylinder that has a 100mm Wiseco piston in it. This is used but in very good condition. Just give the cylinder a ball bone and order a new set of rings. I have the hone. You'll be set. Yours for $100.00 + shipping.
