Interchangeable Fork Lowers?

How interchangeable are fork lowers between different airhead models?

I've got a '78 R100/7 and am looking to put a set of r65LS fork lowers on my 100/7 forks (maintaining the rest of the fork assembly 100/7 parts.....just swapping the fork lowers.

Can I do this or is there a compatability issue?

The easiest way to check a specific part for compatibility is to look up each respective part on a fiche such as Max BMW's.

Having said that, I know that the R65 LS lowers are the same part numbers as the lowers on my R80 ST. (I have a set hanging on the garage wall). And the caliper lugs are for Brembo calipers. If your bike has ATE calipers, you may have a mismatch - not sure since I never dealt with ATE brakes.

When a person asks you for advice, they don't want advice. They want corroboration.

Yeah, mine has ATE calipers. I am pretty sure i can't interchange them. Unless someone can tell me I can, Im not going to take the gamble.

I put an ATE front end on my racer only to find one slider was bent....had a set of Brembo forks from a later bike and used the slider and internals. only mod was to drill out the bottom plate of the ATE lowers to accept the larger 8mm bolt ( from memory)
You want the opposite so the lower fixing bolt may be too small.

Personally I like the ATES, 13 mm bar m/c, stainless hoses and cast iron discs haul up my racer pretty damn good.
Sold of the Brembos....pfft.
The Ractech kit and linear springs make for a good ride...but saying that its not a road bike.

Also have an R65 and the fork lowers have the axle in the centre and I think they might be a bit shorter too.
