Baja at Xmas

I thought I would get a thread going for people that are riding Baja around Xmas and the New Year. I haven't planned a route yet but will be leaving Vancouver around the Dec 21-22. I rode there last Xmas and had a blast. This year I'm getting on the Ferry in La Paz instead of watching it sail away like last year. I want to go explore mainland Mexico and to Belize. Just going to take it day by day

I'm still trying to plan the dates for my next ride into Mexico.
Maybe xmas and new year in Zihuatenejo. That way I could ride down Baja and take the boat over to Mazatlan.
It would be cold in the north and warm in the south.

I'm thinking of heading that way as well.

I'll more than likely be on a husky 510, the gf on a KLX.
Planning will start soon.

Are you going to ride from home or put your bikes on a trailer to California?

Your bikes would like this stuff.......

My Husky is in Phx now, I'll bring down her KLX.
I'm not sure about the logistics of the trip yet.
More than likely trailer from Phx to somewhere in Baja. The KLX is a 140, and the Husky set up for the Baja1000. Neither are set up to do highway miles.

I'm familiar with Baja. It was a blast. The first time I ever bottomed out hard, on my 640, was on some sand road there. I was overriding my sight (and going about 120kph) when the ground dropped out from under me. I don't know how high, but after some time in the air, I had this conversation to myself:

"Oh shit.

This is going to hurt.

Yup, this is REALLY going to hurt..."

Anyway, yes, looking forward to going back there. I'd like to do a sailing class somewhere in the area as well.

Also, I might try to head out to Van next weekend.

That's great Scott I'll be passing that way again and will spend the night in San Felipe. I hope to see you and are you just staying there again?

Cheers

searching for xmas riding buddies

Howdy Guys -

I have two weeks off of work over the holidays, and I'm looking to venture into Baja. I am based in Tucson. Haven't been down to Mexico yet. I am a bit apprehensive, so I need a kick in the ass or some mates to tag along with. I was going to toss up a thread to see if anyone was interested in an xmas baja run, but it looks like I have found the thread!

Freedom starts December 22nd, and that would be my first ride day south, or to whatever border crossing. Freedom will be postponed starting Jan 6th, so I'll be back in Tucson by the 5th or 6th,

I'm just starting to investigate roads and such in and around Baja. I sit next to a seasoned traveler to sonora, and have been picking his brain about his experiences over the past 20 years. Seems very doable, I'd like to have power in numbers for my first trip.

Lex - any further development of plans? I think I'm about 80% counting myself in

Cheers,

Speedy

Hi Steve,

There won't be anything stopping me from going and don't worry at all about riding in Mexico, nothing but friendly people there and you'll love it. I'm leaving Dec 22 too and it will take me about 3 days to get to Baja depending on the weather? I want to cross at Tacate and ride the Compadre trail to San Felipe. It's a fun route.

Cheers
