Sad news certainly
Reading reminds me just how precious life is and how fragile too. Gotta live it or lose it. I got the impression Robert lived it and will continue to , through friends and family. Thanks for posting those pictures. Godbless V

You know, I'm just a little ticked off at the guy right now! Seems like he could have had the decency to pass on to one of us his contacts and skills making wire harnesses!
Unless he passed it on without me knowing, it's just gone. ![]() How inconsiderate!!! Actually, I'm just trying to lighten up the scene here a little bit. I don't think Robert would have wanted us crying over his leaving. But I do mean it - it's a sad thought that he was one of a kind and his particular expertise is gone. I'm pretty good at wiring and making small harnesses, but nothing like Robert. He had the correct tools and knew where to source the correct parts, and how to assemble the parts to form an OEM looking harness. It's a good thing we're all timeless beings, surviving past body death, into the next and the next and the... or I'd be really bummed out. Get a new little body, Robert - find a family into motorcycles, and get back here in a few years!

Sad indeed. I've always enjoyed Robert's posts and his products were top-notch.
Everyone is born, lives and dies. The important thing is what you do with your life, and he accomplished that. Safe journey, my friend. See you on the other side... --Bill PS--- Robert's Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/robert.vanvliet.754 --b

When a wise man passes,a library burns down.
So true here. He will live on in his posts. I can hear it now "And wirewkr said......"

WireWerkes will live on!
Before he got very very sick my Dad was able to pre-arrange the sale of his business to a peer in San Jose. So at some point you'll be able to continue ordering his parts, even if it's not his hand they're coming from. When that info comes, I'll post it.
I remember doing odd jobs for him in his garage in Columbia Maryland when I was a kid - cutting little colored wires to lengths. It was when he was just getting started with the wiring harnesses. Menial work - good times. Still waiting for concrete information about memorial services for you all. Katie |

He will be missed. We miss him already. Smooth sailing friend.
These things are never neat and tidy. But Roberts troubles are over.

Very sad news to read.
![]() I never had the opportunity to meet Robert in person like many folks on here. I always did enjoy reading his posts and absorbed his wisdom out of them. Condolences to Roberts family and friends. So that his wisdom may continue to feed others as they filter through the Airhead posts I am going to click the DONATE button on the bottom of the page and make a contribution to this website in Roberts honor. Rest in Peace Brother. ![]() Mike

Wirewerkes will live on
Quote:
Thanks for mentioning that. Wirewerkes is a valuable asset to those of us that mess around with these old machines. Roberts' contributions to the world of motorcycling are everywhere, riding around on two wheels, and so it shall remain. This thread has become much like an online memorial service. Thanks for sharing during this personal time. Please let us know when Wirewekes V.2 is up and running. Peace |

Dear Katie,
As the reactions here attest, your father was a man of substance. We're sorry for the loss of your father, but we're glad for your heritage. Hold his memory dear, and never forget how proud you made him. sincere best wishes, Lawrence |

It's hard for me to put myself in his place - enter the hospital not feeling well, find out it's advanced cancer and die a month later. Then again, people die suddenly all the time in accidents or heart attacks or whatever. But it's the knowing you're going and can't do anything about it. That would be tough!
Lawrence did say it well!
