I did this route in reverse of yours via Dawson just this June, 21 days from where I am in Monterey CA, your gas cost is just about right, camping in Canada was great, Cassiar RV Park near Kitwanga was GREAT, Bonanza gold in Dawson was GREAT, Glenallen Northern nights GREAT spot, Tok Sourdough Campground ($$$$), I stayed in a Hostel in Portland and moteled in Hope Canada, Rancheria Motel if raining if not get a camping space.

One stretch which was very scary was an 6mi of loose 2in gravel, Haines Junction to Whitehorse, It may be paved when you get there but be aware.

Longest stretch for gas was Kitwanga to Bell2, 160 miles. Research your gas mileage and carry a 1gal if you can, just in case, I did not need it, but you never know if the station is open or closed, specially now days.

Traveled it again this summer myself, just opposite direction, and woulda been up for the return trip 3 days later!

Sure the Cassiar's all paved now and almost civilized, but every mile (er, kilometer) is gorgeous, still some technical bits in the northern half, and so much less tourist/RV traffic.
Just keep tabs on your fuel; there seems to have been an inverse relationship of gas stops to new pavement.

thanks for the advice, and again at this time , the trip is still pending. just planning ahead of myself.. i would love to take the Alcan instead. then again time is and issue.. so trying to find the quickest route..
gas, i should be good. my CBR can do a good 140 miles to a tank. and ill be traveling with a 1gal jug

Last summer, it took me about 7 days on the road at a fairly leisurely pace (400 - 500 miles per day). Fairbanks to Stockton along the Cassiar, central WA, the I5 through OR and CA on my 30 year old airhead. You shouldn't have any problem at all with 16 days round trip. I wasn't in much of a hurry....

(This was without the sidecar)

Four nights in Canada.
1: Destruction Bay
2: north end of the Cassiar
3: south end of the Cassiar
4: 150 miles south of Prince George
The next evening I was in central WA.

So I figure once I get to Salem ,OR, instead of I-5 . I'll be riding the coast as some of ya said. Highway 101 !!! Whooh hoo. Isn't there a song about highway 101? Ha . California

About 8weeks till I take off, the trip got two extra days, and I'll be taking off June 10-28th.

Been kinda slacking on my planning, such like where to eat,sleep.. Etc.

So ima just wing this trip. And good ole time maps.

Vegas was in the picture, but might be skipping that now, don't want to go to Vegas for my first time and be by myself.

L.A will probably be the southern point of this trip.

its too bad you dont have more time, i would meet you in LA and drag you across country to Boston with me. it would be great to have a partner. have you thought about looking for someone on the return trip? im sure there will be plenty of other people headed up north that same time. You may be able to share a hotel every few days and get a warm shower.

And as far as the way back, I haven't really contact anyone. .

If I meet other riders or they meet me. & were heading the same way. That works with me .
