I use Motul 5100 10W50. About $50 CDN for 4l, so a few more bucks per change, but I figure it's worth it to be on spec. - haven't found anything else available locally that meets spec. I use Motorex in my 690 - it's only a couple of litres so what the heck - neither the first or last 20 bucks I've wasted - and I like the container! (

5w40 synthetic is in-spec per the owners manual for winter temps.

In summer I splurge for the 10w50 stuff.

Motorex 10w50. Though I will be looking into that ELF oil someone posted earlier. Their oil works extremely well in VW TDIs going up to triple the factory drain interval. (continued oil performance verified with UOA, something I will start doing with my bike eventually) Mobil 1 makes an excellent oil (it is all I run in my TDIs and recently sold Diesel 4runner), but only being able to find their stuff in a thinner-than-spec viscosity worries me in a climate as warm as central texas, especially in a type of motorcycle with known oil pressure issues at idle.

My personal decision is to ONLY use specifically motorcycle-rated (JASO-MA or MA2) oil in my bike. Both because of the wet clutch, and the significant shearing effect a combined transmission has on the engine lubricant. MA/MA2 oils are designed for both of these features.

Wolf's Head is still only $1 at the Dollar General store! Great stuff! And their chain and bar lube is working great on my chain too.

It is terrible that this thread got this far without answering the question.

For the answer, go get some oil from a recycling station.

This should give a good approximation of what "EVERYONE" is using.

A little late to the dance, however, Antero is a local riding buddy. I believe he went with the Rotella T6 oil. I will add my choice to the list here.

I have been using Yamalube Semi Synthetic 10w-50 motoroil in a couple of KTM's, including my 950. I had used up a couple of cases of Motorex, and have no quarrel with that oil, except price. I have been ordering Yamalube in gallon jugs, at about $30/gallon, of sufficient quantity, from Rocky mountain mc/atv and get free shipping. The yamalube is Jaso MA, is of the viscosity recommended in the owners manual and seems to work just as effectively as Motorex.

I routinely run Rotella in other bikes. I have also, when it was all I could get at the moment, used Motul semi-synthetic 15w-50 which seemed to lubricate just fine in our hot summers.

Lots of good Jaso MA moto oils out there
