Canbus

Wrecked my 07 non-abs DL650 and looking for a replacement. Tempted to buy another Wee (ABS!) but my riding buddy has an F650GS that he highly recommends (better brakes, better suspension, lower seat height, etc.). If I go with the F, I'm looking for a used 2010-12 and have some questions.

Heard stories about the Canbus (sp) interfering with add on Farkles (one post stated replacing a damaged heated grip required a $100 trip to the dealer, my buddy had to have his dealer do something to his computer after he changed the brake fluid on his RT).

I realize there is a switched outlet by the ignition key. For other switched and unswitched power, can I run +/- hookups directly from the battery to an Eastern Beaver fuse box to power the rest of my accessories without upsetting the Canbus?
