Mid-September has consistently pretty good weather. Earlier can be unsettled, even wet. September and October are the driest months and tend to see the least precipitation. Mountain valleys get cold at night, tho.

Knobbies that are DOT legal like Dunlop 606s or Pirelli Pro Scorpion FIM all terrain enduro work well. You will find some sand in NM for sure in short stretches. I also use Tire sealant products as the cactus thorns are everywhere in SO NM.

Could anyone who has done the Antelope Wells-Silver City-Pie Town runs lately comment on road/trail conditions? Looking at doing this on a dual sport hack rig over Thanksgiving in a couple weeks. Fire road stuff is ok, but 24-30" deep embankments due to washouts are problematic on a 1500 lb rig...

Shame we lost the thread for this when the site was re-organized.

FROM SEPAR UP TO MIMBRES IS ALL GRAVEL ROADS PRIMARILY. they are plowed and have been done by hack many times. FR 150 OUT OF MIMBRES OFF NM 35 IS a rugged JEEP trail in some places but still passable.I am looking at a SEPAR-WHITE SIGNAL, TYRONE MINES, QUAIL RIDGE, SILVER CITY, GEORGETOWN RD, TO MIMBRES route FYI.

Do you mean plowed to level the dirt or plowed to remove the snow which I doubt. What is a hack? Are you referring to a taxi?

plowed dirt roads.no snow there yet, but will be in snow by mid december. You are below 6k ft until after you get north of mimbres.
Hack refers to a sidecar, especially one for off road work.

Hi guys,
I would like to ride the CDR next summer ideally August 2013.
In good shape, 57 from Montreal Quebec, good rider up to level 3 of 5. Poor in mechanic, but hard worker. Would prefer motel but camping occasionnaley is ok. Flexible agenda.
Would like to join a group. Let me know of openings.

I'm in for a CD ride south going north OR North going south

just need a start date and location

... I'm no expert but no slouch either. I've been playing in the dirt for a long time and just recently, 3 years ago, got back into bikes after a long layoff. I've got a '98 XR650L, and a '10 F800GS.... LOVE the GS.... I've taken both on 3 week camping trips the the last couple of years. I'm starting to look into next years trip and a CD ride would be awesome!

I'll keep lurking to see what comes about

You do realize this is right in the heart of the monsoon,rainy season correct?

. You have never seen more gooey, peanut butter like mud than the Rockies has! NM, CO get ALL of their rain from late July to mid September. Then.... there are also the swollen ,rushing ravine creeks that can drown you with the run-off also.... Worse than the mud

! Might want to re-think that plan. Could really turn into an "adventure" that you did not plan for.
