If I read this right, £12,595, minus the 20% comes to £10,0076. At today's exchange rate, that's $16,005.22 USD. An R would be $16,767.68.

While I have been critical of KTM building a BMW style motorcycle, I must say the Milan pictures show it to be a very refined product. I'd say it will be over $20k in the US.
If they can command 9-10k for their dirt bikes and nearly $8k for their 200 smoker, this thing will be an easy $20k. I think they'll sell a lot of them too. There is a lot of styling detail that we mostly find on German luxury cars. I hope they keep some sort of derivitive of their LC8 rallye heritage, though. Maybe a smaller 990 that doesn't stray too far from its roots.

Thanks for that report, Pebble.
Like I said a few pages back, I ordered the standard 1190 Adventure. Except today I was at the dealer (who went to the EICMA show) and he told me there might be two 'regular' Adventures and one R. This may be just for certain markets and it is absolutely not sure such a marketing scheme would be the case for your country. As it stands now, in the Netherlands at least, we do not know for certain what will happen. The story is this: there could be a basic model for EUR 16290 without EDS (Electronic Damping System), TPMS (Tire Pressure Measurement System) and MTC (Multi-mode Traction Control). This model would have ABS. The other model would include everything and cost EUR 16990. And then there would be the R with conventional, but taller WP suspension, ABS and MTC. For this model, TMPS would be an option. I am confused right now why anyone would pay extra for TPMS, which is just a simple tire pressure warning. I can however understand that there may be a model without the electronic damping system for those who do not trust or need such a system. This will all become clear in a few days or weeks. My dealer and others like him will go to an introduction event on the island of Tenerife mid-February. After this event, the first customer bikes will be available within two weeks. |

Eicma 2012
Hey guys,
I went to EICMA yesterday and got to look around the KTM and Bosch stands. Whilst I cannot add a great deal to what has been said before, I can say that I did like the new 1190 despite thinking that I would not. I concur about the pipe not being that bad in the flesh and that the seat heights are generally lower than the 990. I could easily flat foot the 1190 models and was on the balls of my feet on the1190R. Having a 32 inch (81.3cm) inseam I would say that the 1190R is slightly higher than the 990 and the 1190 is slightly lower than the 990. This was generally a surprise to me. I'm not sure whether the 1190 seats were set at the high or low position though (they have 2 positions right?). There seemed to be more pillion room on both 1190 and 1190R over something like the Yamaha XTZ1200 and the GF says that the pillion grab rails are in a better position on the 1190 too. She also says that even the 1190R seat seemed comfortable (firmer and wider) compared to my 990 and on par with the Yamaha XTZ1200. So thumbs up from the boss then. ![]() Here are a few photos that may show some things that have been queried and/or not shown before. Click the links below each image for larger versions: The headlight both off and on. I have one of the first model year 990s (2006) and swore I would not do that again. Hopefully KTM have learned from previous lessons and have gotten it correct from the off. We'll see I guess but so far it's looking good. Any questions then please ask. |

There is a rubber strip (a bit like an oversized rim tape) that runs over the nipples on the inside of the rim and is sealed to make the rim airtight

I see that the right side engine case (clutch cover) says "LC8".
The pix I've seen of the 1290 Super Duke say the same thing. So is it a punched out LC8 or an RC8?
