Transalpina/ Romania, 2012

I’d been waiting for this moment with great excitement, because in the 2011 season I had not been on any outings.

On Thursday, July 26, my one-month vacation started ;)))

On Friday morning at 6 we left for the Transalpina road. The three of us who set out from Cluj (myself, Lori, and Domenique) were supposed to meet up with another 6 bikes at Ranca, after which we were supposed to return to Cluj.

It rained continuously all the way to Sebes, but the route was beautiful and fun thanks to the walkie-talkies installed in our helmets, with which we had a great time.

We made our first stop to tank up and warm up with something hot. Of course we also consulted the maps we had.

With our batteries recharged we left for the highest road in Romania, the Transalpina (2143 meters).

The road was starting to have lots of turns and the fun we were having on our bikes was at its max.

Until the first traffic jam…

High up on the cliffs they were mounting wire meshes to protect against falling rocks.

After a few minutes the light turned green.

Suddenly, en route, I could no longer hold back and I asked via my walkie-talkie for a photo break, somewhere at the rear end of Lake Oasa… There was a meter-thick layer of fog spread out over the entire surface of the lake.

… and here we are on Oasa dam: a Romanian, a Hungarian, and a Frenchman…;)))

After a short photo session, we started climbing towards the most beautiful stretch of the route, the Transalpina, with exceptional asphalt and some turns that were so tight that you could almost see your own license plate on the back of the bike ;))

A break to admire the view...

Here we’re promoting organic sheep cheese.

At last, the meeting with our friends, and a well-deserved meal.

Another stop.

Blueberries and raspberries (purchased).

We rode single-file all the way to Cluj (9 bikes).

The Transalpina road is superb, but, in my opinion, however, it comes in second, after the Transfagarasan road
