The crap that we have in California is not necessarily flammable.

I wouldn't use them but how do you know if you bought something like those rotors on line?
I've spoken to the guy that bought the wreck at the insurers auction. He said the transmission is still working fine in a mates bike. Not sure about the rest of it.

Just been through this thread from page 1 and its brilliant
Left it open in the tab browser and just when I had a few minutes would look through a few pages

Recent posts of burnt bikes made me think of a project in my garage given to me by a friend.

This was stolen by some local youth and the little tikes decided to have a BBQ. I will rebuild this bike, 1994 R80 Mono

My hat's off to you Pezz as I don't think I would have the time/patience to revive that. Please create a thread for the rebuild as I'm sure it will motivate some that it could be worse.

Time to refurbish my R100GS-Paris Dakar

This is my R100GS-Paris Dakar, made in 1989 but is a German import arriving in the UK in 1993. I bought her in 2004 with daydreams of a RTW ride or similar but reality has set in and I don't have the money to do that. After twelve more-than-happy years riding my ST1100, including two coast-to-coast across the US, she's finally too heavy for me and I ride her so little, a mere 800 miles last year. Time to resurrect the Paris Dakar.

I have plans to re-inforce the frame and subframe before powdercoating, and BMW specialist Jim Cray is going to work wonders with the engine. Jim re-built my R100/7 about eighteen years ago and it was a flyer. The wheels will be polished and fitted with stainless steel spokes. I've already fitted a four-pot caliper from an R1100 and a floating disc which incidentally altered the effectiveness of the front brake from very poor to poor. I fitted a taller Secdem screen (although I like the US Parabellum) and have bought a single seat and rack from the US plus Touratech panniers. A nice project for the winter.

This is a copy of a 'Surefoot' sidestand. I found with the original sidestand attached to the crashbars, my short legs couldn't extend the damn thing far enough forwards. This does the trick but is far too chunky so I intend to make a lighter and tidier version.

I really didn't like the original, and to my mind, ugly high mudguard to I've bought a lower one and tried it for side. Not only neater but when I move the oil cooler to the front of the frame, cooling air will reach it without being obstructed.

I'll add some more pics as and when there's some progress.

I will have a thread, however I have to rebuild a motor for his R60/5 first. Trying to work out whether to install 800 barrels with Decomp or oversize 600cc pistons. After approximately 1 million k's there is practically no wear in the barrels and Pistons.

Old engine spun a big end bearing

The 60/5 is such a sweet engine, all the /5 are really, oh and the /6's, oh and the heavy flywheel bikes, allright then, I love all the airheads, but I do prefer the heavy flywheel engines

l
Great looking bike, congrats.

- but would be better without the useless bolt on (horizontal?) frame braces, and exhaust pipe wrap.
