You must be new to rim locks, the rim strip goes over the lock...duct tape a rim lock down to the rim and have a good time getting the tire on.

I work in a motocycle shop and we deal with more dirt bike tires with rim locks then any other type.
You tape up the rim, poke a hole in the tape and insert the rimlock. Then install like normal.

Oh, the hard way. I use a regular rim strip to keep my rimlock in place. It's just easier when you're changing tires behind a bar in the middle of nowhere in the dark.

Duct tape is not so good in the hot desert. The glue turns into a gooey mess and the tape slides around and gets bunched up leaving little to no protection for the tube. There are other alternatives.

I know of a woman who used bandaids over her nipples.
