Hi All,

I'll post this in the DR650 thread also but there's a lot of generic stuff here that my be of interest to anyone building an Overland/RTW bike.

A brief history - I left home in the UK in March 2006 and set off around the world on my BMW F650. I rode out through the Middle East and South-East Asia with a friend who then opted to stay on in New Zealand. I left him there in October 2007 and continued my journey solo through Australia, East Timor, Indonesia and Malaysia to Singapore from where I shipped my bike to Chile in November 2008. Whilst in Bolivia in September last year I totally destroyed my second Ohlins shock and decided enough was enough. I shipped the BMW back to Europe and bought a 2006 DR650 in Salt Lake City which I then rode to a mates place near Boston before flying on to Europe to collect the BMW. I returned to Boston in January, finished preparing the DR and have been back on the road for a month (typing this in Moab).

It's far to much to replicate here (150k+ words & 1500 photos) but my website is:

http://shortwayround.co.uk

If you go to the 'Suzuki' tab you'll find all the build info. There are more pictures in the Gallery under 'DR Preparation'.

ADV Rider has been a great source of info for building the DR and I hope posting this info will help someone else.

I'll be riding on up through western USA through Canada to Alaska, back down to Mexico for October/November, Colombia for Jan/Feb and back to Bolivia to pick up where I left off before my Ohlins shit itself - again. Would be great to hear from any of you on 'Tent Space' along the way.

Her's a couple of pics...

Cheers

Adam Lewis

Nice. I really appreciate the write-up on the DR650 mods as well. Too cool.

Good luck with your next leg.

Drop me a pm when you know what your route through BC will be. I'm in Prince George, so chances are pretty good you'll be coming through town on your way north.

There's plenty of room in our yard for tenting, and we have a spare room if you need a break from sleeping outdoors.

Good luck and safe travels!
