so to sum up the pre-requisites for a Dakar winner

• extensive international / national level championship winner skill levels
• extensive desert racing experience
• outright speed over long distance
• professional rider
• major team resources
• 1 to 3 previous Dakar's competed
• late 20's to early 30's
• mentally tough
• race craft smart
• extensive experience controlling the race from the front

hmm not many to fit that criteria thats for sure

More surprising to me was the fact that only eleven individuals have won the Dakar.

Given that fact, it isn't that unlikely that only a small number of countries would be represented.

Nope, I believe they're the ones that usually occupy the sled in the passenger side of the helicopter...

My money is on Barreda being the next one to break through.

Kurt Caselli meets almost all the requirements listed--just needs some rally experience. He has said that he hopes to do some rally racing in the near future.

Jacob Argubright and his dad have built a Kawasaki rally bike, which I thought was interesting. He is young and very fast.

I agree. He's got youth on his side, but also a wealth of experience over the past few years. His speed is being matched by maturity and consistency and now that Speedbrain has a few years under their belts, I'd say Barreda is a good bet to assume the mantle.
