Note to self: Don't let anybody talk me in to riding poison spider trail.

Have there been some disappearing posts in here?

I was wondering the same thing...Wolfy posted his ride & now gone? Cause I was gonna quote him & say that the new Research Park road he thought he saw is really just clearing for TVA right-of-way for new big power distribution line that will be going in.

I think I actually posted mine in the North MS thread. I wondered which it might be, but I had heard they were starting the new road into the research park, so I wasn't really sure which it was.

There are back roads all over Moab. I would like to spend a week on the KLR out there. I just wouldn't ride anything we road. Onion creek would be great on a KLR, I rode it a couple years ago.

Yes, Onion Creek is a good road for a bigger bike. I was on a 990 when I road it.

As usual, it started and ended in MS...

I've been working on a mostly gravel route from Columbus to the Bankhead National Forest in NW Alabama. The grand idea is to make a loop that takes an easy day each way and camp in the NF. I've got the route to Guin, AL figured out pretty well, some of y'all have ridden it.

Today I tried to work out the rest of the route north.

Sulligent, AL:

HWY 78:

Steeper than it looks. Coming back up, pinned the throttle and let the traction control do its thing.

Bankhead NF route cont'd.

Just an out and back, but a fun one on a 600 pound street bike with rims made out of butter.

Finally made it to Bankhead:

Lots of roads end like this:

Stopped for a sandwich and smelled burning leaves:

Lots of these:

Back in Guin (I think):

Almost home:

Got some more of the route figured out and some more to work on. Maybe next week. Or next month...
