Riding locations from Gig Harbor
We have lived in Gig Harbor for 18 years or so, but spent the last 2 years in Northern Cal. While there I sold my Harley and re-kindled my childhood by picking up a KTM 530 EXC (plated) and a 1150 gs. It was great to ride again and that part of the country has fabulous riding...if only it wasn't Cali. What a strange state.
Now that we are back home in Gig Harbor again, I sure would like to know a few great D/S rides to take either bike on. I have plenty of winter riding gear and am farkling the gs as we speak. The KTM is always ready. Any suggestions would be really helpful. Also, are there any South Sound regular meets this winter and fall? Thanks a lot. |

Up to Bainbridge Island....
Trying to get a monthly bike night together at Madison Diner. Next Thursday is the last Thursday of the month, the suggested day for future gathering. If you're interested just pop on by.

High steel bridge and loop around to browns creek camp, the roads past lebar horse camp, cuz you cant get lost there really.
Also ride to the wynoochie dam and around lake wynooch. And back. Those are a few to get you used to the roads out there. I recomend a map from one of the ranger stations too, not to rely solely on the gps, they have closed some roads permanently. Plus it is kinda fun to navigate with maps.once you get those routes down then branch out to the other many many many loops and other roads.

DS rides fromGH
Welcome back!
If you already have the GPS, check out Dave's CD on Grip Twisters for routes around the Olympics. Dounload the tracks and follow them for all the fun you can take. There are sections you can do on a day trip from here. I've done the loop 3 times and always had a great time. Didn't make it this summer as we did a 1000 mile loop through S.E. Oregon and other stuff. Another area could be Tahuya north of Belfair. Lots of roads both paved and not, to explore. I hope there is still some good weather left to ride more. We were up the Entiat Valley friday and I had a good ride but I rained all night and snow and freezing rain saturday morning so we came home over the pass in more snow. Luckey we trailered over. |

just remember if you go to tahuya even riding roads you will need a discovery pass for dnr land.
i know ray the dnr guy but they now have another ex state patrol dnr enforcment that will stop you and ask for one, ask me how i know! but there are lots of mixed roads out there all the way to dewato around to silverdale.

If you ordered a pass and are gonna ride before you get it, mine took 3 weeks to get when they first came out, they should have given you a number to write on a piece of paper to put up that a dnr off. Could punch or call to verify you have one. Just not here yet.
