You guys better put on some new knobbies and bigger tanks cause it's gonna be a long rough ride Hundred's of miles of roads and tons of stuff to see. Got all winter to plan this...

A week of riding here will make Moab look like a little ride...a much warmer, nicer looking little ride

I'll just strap on a 5 gallon jerry can on my bike so I'll have the range.

My rear knobby is still good to go. If the wheel don't spin the wear is minimal.

Ya got a point there 2whlrider...that rear should be as good as new and ready for next spring

Hopefully we'll have a good spring...really, that's not too much to ask for...is it

I'd add short, mild winter and good early spring. (Sorry all you sledders)

Pretend ride...

I don't do this very often and since no one else is posting, I'm posting a few shots of my journey to Silver Mountain...in a cage

I will mention that I saw Old Fart at Play passing Silver Mountain Station, so that's a bike comment worthy of this post...right, right So he wins last ride of the year award...unless someone else can post a ride.

I wanted to see the West side of Silver Mountain, as there were mining operations in the late 1800's and into the early 1900's on two large sites. I found the West operation pretty easily, there used to be a makeshift road to the site. It's grown over now but you can still follow it. I ended up finding 4 or 5 mines, most collapsed and blocked with the deepest one about 40' down to the water. I rappelled down one small ledge of about 12' or so to see the deepest mine. I tramped around the bush for over 2kms in the area and it was a nice day!

I took a pile of pics but here's a select few

Foggy start to the morning

X marks the spot...in the sky at least

Small Mine Audit

Old Mine Cart rails hanging out over mine shaft

Which rope would you trust? I was setting up to climb back up at this point

Me standing in front of a mine shaft

Damn, I need some snow cover soon!!

This will give anyone who wants to ride around here next year, an idea of what's out there to see...if you want to stop, get off your bike and smell the bear crap!! No roses around here!

I was a tad chilly ride, somewhat reminding me of the mornings in Moab when we'd start out in sunshine and 5c,
except it wasn't going to get any warmer and the scenery wasn't anywhere as spectacular...ah who am I kidding,
it was nothing like Moab...
I bet when you rolled out of the Moab, you figured that was it for riding eh.......

Nice photos Rob.
Looks like there is a lot of places to explore around there.
You could have brought your Climbing gear to Moab and explored some of the big cliffs.

I thought about it while I was there...would've really liked to explore the mines a bit more. Next time I'm in the neighbourhood I'll take some time to hike and explore...my fat ass could use some activity

I'm not a big climber, did a bunch of ice climbing a few years ago but I'm not built for climbing...more for rolling...on two wheels It would be likened to one of the other climbers carrying another person on his back...that's what I feel like

Oh ya, by the way, we were absorbing radon at the uranium mines at about 10 times normal exposure...but apparently short term at that level is safe...

Ha! Stranded in Thunder Bay by Bearskin Airlines. Too bad didn't know sooner, would've tried to look up somebody. Ron, you're here now, right. That's how out of touch I am last few years.

Okay, I'm a little freaked out here....

Can anyone tell me what the hell that is in the back of photo that I took of this mine audit. I enlarge and cropped the section so you can see...somewhat.

Tell me if I'm seeing things or not but I see a red eye and I see a black thing with legs between the two rocks

Maybe I shouldn't be sticking my head in these things!

Mine monsters

Ok Rob...I don't see anything in that photo that looks like anything other than rock in a mine shaft.
But you do have a more artistic eye than I do.
