More likely Kim Newcombe, and it was an outboard engine.

It was Tuluie. That thing was a missile.
I read an article on it in the Brit mag PB. He was an aerospace engineer who had a thing for bikes, much like John Britten. The detail work on that thing (800cc if I remember correctly) was amazing.

Yeah I saw it race at a few Formula USA events. I think it raced in the Unlimited GP class against mostly 750 GSX-R's.

Newcombe's Konig used a longitudinal flat 4 cylinder 2 stroke outboard motor with belt driven rotary valves mated to a Norton Manx gearbox. Here is the motor, note the belt turning 90 degrees from the side to the rotary valves on top. He actually won a race and finished second in the championship on this thing in 1973!?

I met Rob Tuluie at Summit Point in WV a couple of times in the early 90's. He was campaigning a CR500 powered racer at the time and was also in some way involved in a TZ750 project. I was on a near-stock RZ350 and somehow the rule structure placed that TZ750 and my RZ in the same class. I've never enjoyed being passed so much.
