I really don't like the way this white paint goes on... Doesnt seem to matter how I have my gun set, it comes out in gloppy chunks. For the most part, it does flow in pretty well, but it still leaves an uneven surface. The primer out of the same gun goes on ppeerrrrfectly smooth. Don't know what the problem is...

Wow, one whole side "done".

Other side has a long ways to go.

Garage art, for the moment.

A couple of things. If your primer is not a 2-part epoxy, it's not waterproof and you'll start rusting under the primer if you let it sit. The paint will pop off later, once the rust gets going good. The other is, paint can have a shelf life. If you've been sitting on that white paint for a year, it may have gone bad.

Its "cream"... Not "arctic white". Paint hasnt been frozen, but it has been on the shelf since last summer. I know the reducer and activator are supposed to have a very short shelf life, but I don't think thats causing the problem with the paint going on bumpy- it did that when the cans were brand new. The fresher paint is slightly darker than the stuff I shot last summer too... Hoping that it will "fade" to match? Probably not, but it's close enough for now. That door sat out all winter in primer, and I don't expect the paint to last for long for that reason. The door is pretty much shot anyways, but hopefully it will last long enough to get the rest of the truck "done" and give me some time to get one of my spare doors painted the right way. Just looked at the paint again, it actually went on pretty smooth. I think part of my problem on the hood was I wasn't pulling the trigger on the gun all the way, so the paint was "dripping" out inside the gun instead of flowing, giving me a spatter effect. Dunno... Just annoyed that it doesnt go on as smooth as the primer or the black did.

I had a guy bring me paint that he had gotten for a car that went on like that.
He had bought it a year before and left it in an unheated shed over the winter.

That is why I asked if it had been frozen. I don't know for sure if certain kinds of paint freeze like water, but I know that paint after it had been very cold was worthless.

For these:

And 4 of these:

Unfortunately, the rims were the wrong bolt pattern, so the guy is going to drop of the right ones next week. Oughta make it look bit better if I ever finish painting and the motor.

At this rate I'll be done by April! 2027.

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time

Keep up the good work and the updates. Eventually, I'll get jealous enough to get back started on my '64 Chevy pickup

Or... You eat so much you barf it all back up and then have no desire to ever eat elephant again... I havent lost the desire yet, I REALLY want to see this project done. Had my boys help me move it out from the front of the garage so we can get a car in there this winter.

Resting place till spring:

Think the grill looks pretty good. Rearranged the gradge today too- only took 3 years of living hear and now we can get a car in there! Made sure to leave the motor bits accessible though. I'm really hopin to get the motor on its way back together before summer... If I can scratch together enough money for the rebuild pieces I need. Maybe Santa will help with that this year.

Great trade with the tires and wheels! They should really make it pop when they're installed!

The wheel fairy dropped off some rims last night! Woke up this morning and these were outside my door.

Wasn't the wheel faerie! It was OBVIOUSLY the cat. You can see it all over its face!

Found this thread this morning, and just now finished it. Great project! I've enjoyed it thus far. Looking forward to more progress. I may have to undertake something similar myself.

Managed to squeeze an hour in over Thanksgiving break. Not as much as I had hoped, but progress none the less. Basically just cleaned up the block- gasket surfaces and the sides so I can paint it eventually.

Had to get this beast out of the way first...

Commence grinding.
